Kerala: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Malayalam weekly “Prabodhanam” reportedly under scanner for pro-Bangladesh content

Central agencies are reportedly preparing to examine the Malayalam weekly “Prabodhanam”, regarded as a Jamaat-e-Islami mouthpiece, over its continued publication of interviews and translated content featuring Bangladesh Jamaat leaders and related narratives

“Prabodhanam” Malayalam weekly is under the lens of central agencies for allegedly carrying anti-national content through its magazine, with an inquiry reportedly being prepared. The publication, regarded as the mouthpiece of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has been consistently publishing pro-Bangladesh and anti-Bharat interviews. In recent issues, it has featured conversations with Bangladesh leaders known for maintaining anti-Bharat positions and policy views, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami president Dr Shafeequr Rehman and another senior leader, Najeebur Rehman.

The January 30, 2026 edition of “Prabodhanam” carried an interview with Dr Shafeequr Rehman that was originally published by Al Jazeera from Qatar, a prominent Middle East media platform.

Shafeequr Rehman’s interview, including the statement demanding the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (from Bharat), had been carried by “Prabodhanam” dated September 6, 2024.

It was the Malayalam translation of the interview given to TRT World, the Turkish Islamic media network. It was justifying the anti-Hindu riots in Bangladesh and the brutal violence taking place there.

“Prabodhanam” had also carried the Al Jazeera channel interview of Najeebur Rehman Nizami, the son of Motiur Rehman Nizami, former president of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who was hanged some time back.

The fact that “Prabodhanam” keeps carrying Malayalam translations of interviews of Bangladeshi Jamaat-e-Islami leaders indicates that there are specific agendas behind it, because the party follows the doctrine of a theocratic state and anti-Bharat policies.

Earlier, “Prabodhanam” had informed its readers that the terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen is pro-Jamaat-e-Islami and that they are working for an independent Kashmir.

In the past, “Prabodhanam” was banned twice. But the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and V.D. Satheesan, Congress leader and LoP in the Kerala Assembly, declare that Jamaat-e-Islami has given up the doctrine of a theocratic state; hence they (UDF) join hands with them. But speeches of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders continue to emerge which underline in bold letters that they have not deviated even an inch from their declared policies.
