J&K: High alert imposed across LoC after Pakistani drones intrude Rajouri & Poonch; Indian Army ramps up security

Rajouri: In a renewed security challenge along the Line of Control (LoC), multiple drones were detected hovering over the Doonga Gali area in the Keri sector, prompting swift and coordinated action by Indian security forces. Troops opened fire to neutralise the aerial threats and launched extensive ground search operations to rule out the possibility of arms, explosives, or narcotics being dropped.

This marks the second drone-related incident in the Rajouri sector within the last 48 hours, leading authorities to place the entire LoC and International Border (IB) on high alert. Surveillance has been intensified, and forces have been directed to maintain maximum operational readiness amid a surge in hostile aerial activity.

Notably, this is the first time since Operation Sindoor in May last year that multiple drones have been sighted across the LoC and IB within such a short span. On Sunday, several drones were observed in the Rajouri region, including one that briefly hovered over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district.

Earlier, similar drone movements were reported in the Nowshera, Poonch, and Samba sectors, indicating a coordinated cross-border attempt to smuggle arms and explosives into Indian territory. The recovery of a weapons cache in Samba last week, containing pistols, magazines, and explosive material, has further strengthened suspicions of Pakistan’s continued efforts to supply terror groups operating in J&K.

The latest incidents come shortly after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a strong warning to Pakistan against any future provocation. Recalling Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack to dismantle terror infrastructure across the border, General Dwivedi stressed that the operation remains active and that India’s response strategy has fundamentally evolved.

“This time, the scale and intensity of our actions in J&K reflected our decision to expand the conventional space,” the Army Chief said. “Within those 88 hours, our mobilisation was such that had Pakistan committed any misadventure, we were fully prepared to launch ground operations.”
