Bengaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved a historic milestone in the construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G), setting four Guinness World Records and highlighting India’s rapid infrastructure development. Sharing the achievement on social media, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari emphasised that these records demonstrate the country’s commitment and capability in highway construction, while also contributing significantly to improving connectivity and regional economic growth.
The initial two Guinness World Records were set on January 6 near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh. These were soon followed by two additional records on January 11, surpassing previous benchmarks and reaffirming NHAI’s leadership in fast-track road construction. According to Minister Gadkari, the records illustrate the precision, speed, and dedication that India brings to large-scale infrastructure projects.
The first record involved laying 9.63 kilometers of three-lane bituminous concrete continuously within 24 hours. The second record saw 10,655 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete laid in a continuous 24-hour stretch. These achievements marked the first time such records were registered globally under a single highway construction project.
Setting new global benchmarks in highway engineering 🛣️, NHAI has created history by achieving two more Guinness World Records in continuous Bituminous Concrete paving.

The subsequent records further elevated India’s stature in road construction. The third Guinness World Record involved placing 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete, while the fourth record was achieved by laying 156 kilometers of continuous asphalt, surpassing all previous records in terms of volume and distance covered. Together, these four accomplishments highlight the high-speed construction techniques adopted by NHAI and reinforce India’s position as a leader in modern infrastructure development.
The high-speed construction was executed across Packages 2 and 3 of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada corridor, in collaboration with M/s Rajpath Infracon Private Limited. The operation involved extensive logistics and manpower, including 70 tippers, five hot mix plants, asphalt pavers, and 17 rollers. Equipment and material management were coordinated across multiple companies, ensuring seamless execution of the project while maintaining safety and quality standards. Special measures were also implemented for work in tunnels, forested areas, and other sensitive zones to ensure environmental and worker safety.
Officials have noted that the economic corridor will substantially improve connectivity between Bengaluru and Vijayawada, facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers and promoting regional trade. By significantly reducing travel time and enhancing road quality, the project is expected to have a long-term impact on commerce, tourism, and overall economic activity in the region.
The NHAI’s achievement has drawn attention both nationally and internationally, showcasing the scale, efficiency, and technological capability of India’s infrastructure initiatives. By breaking multiple Guinness World Records, the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor has set a benchmark for future projects and reinforced the government’s commitment to building world-class highways that meet global standards.
As the project progresses toward completion, stakeholders have emphasized that it represents not only an engineering milestone but also a testament to India’s dedication to innovation, speed, and excellence in public infrastructure. The successful execution of this corridor is expected to serve as a model for similar high-speed highway projects across the country.
