Umar Khalid: Islamist with agenda of radicalising Khilafat in Bharat; Has links with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani

In the latest development pertaining to the Delhi Riots Case of 2020, Supreme Court has denied bail to the key accused Umar Khalid, a conspiracy that led to the death of 53 people. His roots are traced to a deep agenda of threatening national security. Apparently, he is the son of the leader of the banned Islamist organisation SIMI and has strong links with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani who is a pan-Islamist. His speeches echo the intention of radicalising Khilafat in India and altering the ecosystem into an Islamic nation

NEW DELHI: In a remarkable verdict to uphold the national security apparatus and public order in the country, the Supreme Court of India has rejected the bail for Umar Khalid, a key accused in the Delhi Riots Case of 2020. This anti-national conspiracy has led to the death of 53 people and severely injured more than 700 people. However, tracing the roots of Umar Khalid reveal chilling facts about his core agenda and anti-national rhetoric that is aimed at threatening and dismantling the very social and civilisational fabric of the country.

Umar Khalid was a student in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Apparently, he is the son of Syed Qasim Iylas, who is a member of the banned radical Islamist outfit in the country, Student Islamist Movement of India(SIMI). Father of Umar Khalid is the ardent supporter and defender of all the anti-national deeds espoused by his son. Umar Khalid is also infamous in the country for repeatedly chanting anti-India slogans and asserting radical speeches, thus provoking the young minds against the regime and the constitutional ethos of the country. Most importantly, Umar Khalid and his father have strong links with the new Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani who is a pan-Islamist.

The radical statements by Khalid’s father towards Islamisation of Bharat

The father of Umar Khalid Syed Qasim Iylas is known for his radical statements that are deep rooted in Islamic rhetoric aimed at altering the civilisational and constitutional fabric of India. In an interview in 2003, Syed Qasim Iylas had justified the posters pasted by the Student Islamist Movement of India(SIMI) which has now been banned. The posters in the public spaces read that “Destroy Nationalism and Establish Khilafat” in India. Khilafat is the synonym for Muslim rule based on Sharia(Muslim law). He justified the posters by claiming, “What is wrong in the poster? Nationalism is a fascist idea while Khilafat movement was supported by the Congress and its leaders Gandhiji and Nehru”, during the freedom struggle.

On October 1, 2006, in an event organised by Jamat-e-Islami at Ahmedabad, Syed Qasim Iylas openly gave a call to convert entire Bharat into an Islamic nation. This speech is considered as the most provocative assertion that threatened the very civilisation and institutional framework of the country. Uday Mahurkar, Author and Founder of Save Culture, Save Bharat Foundation, recalls this provocative speech by the father of Umar Khalid in Ahmedabad decades ago. Syed Qasim Iylas is also the spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and was the National President of the radical SIMI. This history of Syed Qasim Iylas, resonates the true agenda and hidden motives of Umar Khalid as well, who was indeed a threat to national security and public order, as stated by the Supreme Court.

The radical links with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani

Umar Khalid and his father also have strong links with the New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani who is apparently a radical pan-Islamist. This anti-India bonhomie was recently reflected in the solidarity letter written by Zohran Mamdani to Umar Khalid. Addressing Umar Khalid, Zohran Mamdani wrote, “We are all thinking of you”. Zohran Mamdani in fact mentioned about meeting Umar Khalid’s parents in the United States and expressed “pleasure”over the meeting. Zohran Mamdani, the new Mayor of New York City is known for his strong nati-India rhetoric. He repeatedly targets India with fake narratives and illicit motives.

Reacting to the meeting with Zohran Mamdani, father of Umar Khalid Syed Qasim Iylas reiterated, “He gave us time exclusively and we discussed many things, including Umar’s incarceration. We also spoke about what has been happening to my son and the developments around his case. Mamdani said he follows it and has read umar’s letter from the jail”. This strong connection between Zohran Mamdani and the family of Umar Khalid echoes hidden meanings. Why would an Indian family of a student activist meet the political figure of the United States. The answer is the mutual and shared radical Islamist motives aimed to be spread across India and the world. The aim is to destabilise a solid regime and social fabric successfully operating in India. The illicit nexus between Umar Khalid and Zohran Mamdani aims to engineer a radical Islamist movement in India, denounce the regime, fuel the fake narratives and ultimately ensure Islamisation of Bharat. However, any attempt to alter the national security apparatus of India is not encouraged, the latest Supreme Court verdict, echoes this message.
