BENGAL: Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a jibe at the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of systematically encouraging illegal immigration to expand its vote bank, while presiding over a state riddled with corruption, violence, and administrative failure. Amit Shah’s remarks, made at a high-level meeting in Kolkata with BJP core workers and migrant laborers, set the tone for what is shaping up to be one of the most hard-fought assembly elections in West Bengal’s history.
“The Trinamool government has turned infiltrators into a vote bank. Its 14-year rule has made Bengal synonymous with fear, corruption, and lawlessness. This government is certain to be ousted in the upcoming elections,” Amit Shah asserted. He vowed that the BJP will form the next West Bengal government with a strong two-thirds majority, emphasising that the party’s focus will be on development, governance, and national security.

Amit Shah took a direct aim at Mamata Banerjee’s iconic slogan “Ma, Mati, Manush” (Mother, Land, and People), claiming that under her rule, the people of Bengal have been betrayed. “Women in Bengal are now unsafe. The land has become a haven for infiltrators. Ordinary citizens, fed up with corruption and misgovernance, are being forced to flee,” Amit Shah said. He cited rampant extortion, syndicates, and illegal toll collections under TMC as reasons why industries are leaving the state, depriving youth of employment and economic growth opportunities.

“The Mamata government has surpassed even the Communist rule in political violence,” Amit Shah said, highlighting incidents of post-election attacks, intimidation, and vengeful violence that have terrorised ordinary citizens. “Do as much oppression as you want; the people of Bengal will soon deliver their fitting response,” he warned, noting that women across the state are ready to challenge TMC’s rule.

Amit Shah criticised illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, which he described as a matter of national security rather than a mere local issue. He accused the West Bengal government of deliberately refusing to provide land for border fencing, enabling continued infiltration for political purposes.

“Which government refuses land for border fencing? It is yours,” Amit Shah told the TMC leadership. “Why does infiltration stop in Assam and Tripura but continue in Bengal? Because it happens under your watch to change Bengal’s demography and strengthen your vote bank.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed Amit Shah’s concerns, stating that while Assam and Tripura are actively fighting illegal entry, West Bengal is “opening its doors” to infiltrators. Sarma welcomed the proposal for a national grid to monitor infiltration along the Bengal-Bangladesh border and urged decisive action.
Amit Shah assured that once the BJP forms the government in West Bengal, a strong national grid will be established to prevent any infiltration, ensuring that the state is secure and that law-abiding citizens are protected. He vowed that the BJP would go door-to-door to expose TMC’s corruption, appeasement politics, and failures in governance.
“Tormented by fear, corruption, misgovernance, and infiltration, the people of Bengal have resolved to bring the BJP to power,” Shah said. “BJP stands for development, heritage, and welfare of the poor. We will restore Bengal’s pride and security.”
