RAIPUR: A joint team of security personnel in an anti-Naxal operation unearthed a cache of arms and ammunition hidden by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, said police on Wednesday, December 31.
As per reports, the operation was launched on Tuesday which led to recovery of country-made weapons and ammunitions of SLR and INSAS rifles from the forest area near Gondapalli village of Sukma.
The team during the operation recovered three muzzle loading (Bharmar guns), a 12 bore single shot rifle and around 300 live cartridges of SLR and INSAS rifles. The team also seized 100 live rounds of .303 rifle. The operation was launched by a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and district police.
Anti-Naxal operations are in full swing in state’s Bastar division that encompasses seven districts including Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma, all badly hit by Maoist-insurgency. Counter-insurgency operations have resulted in major successes in the past two years with security forces neutralising more than 290 Naxalites in south Bastar region alone.
Operations in Anujhmad and south Bastar of Chhattisgarh and adjoining bordering regions of other Maoist-hit states have resulted in neutralisations of several of top Maoist leaders in 2025, marking a major setback for the outlawed group.
Security forces have also established key security camps across the state strengthening their presence in areas considered as Maoist’s hotbed. As per state government, more than 60 such security camps have come up across Chhattisgarh in 2025 alone.
This comes after the Union Government announced a deadline to eliminate Maoist-insurgency from Bharat by March 2026. As per reports, anti-Maoist campaign targeting the remaining 4-5 top Naxal leaders are likely to intensify further in Chhattisgarh and other adjoining regions after January 2026.
