Bengaluru: The intervention of the Congress high command in Karnataka affairs triggered outrage on social media and among the opposition BJP. Karnataka Leader of the Opposition, R Ashok, launched a scathing attack on Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal, questioning his role and interference in the state’s administration. In a recent post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ashok raised concerns over what he termed as an attempt by the Congress high command to undermine Karnataka’s autonomy in favour of appeasing Kerala voters ahead of upcoming elections. His remarks sparked a fresh wave of outrage and debate across social media, with the BJP accusing the Congress of politicising humanitarian issues for electoral gains.
Federalism under threat?
Ashok’s post began with a pointed question: “Who is @kcvenugopalmp to ‘intervene’ in the administration of Karnataka? Is he a Super CM, or does the Congress high command believe elected state governments function on Delhi diktats?” This stark criticism of Congress’ centralised approach to governance challenges the very principles of federalism that the BJP claims to uphold.

He further emphasised that Karnataka is governed by a constitutionally elected Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and a duly constituted cabinet. “This is not a government run by AICC General Secretaries, but by the people’s elected representatives. Expressing a party opinion is one thing, but issuing moral sermons and pressuring a state government is an overreach and an insult to federalism,” Ashok remarked, calling out the Congress for imposing Delhi-based directives on the state.
Hypocrisy in the Congress high command’s approach
R Ashok’s ire was not limited to this, as he called out the Congress leadership for rank hypocrisy. “Has K.C. Venugopal ever shown the same urgency when medical and other waste from Kerala has been illegally dumped along Karnataka’s borders, threatening Bandipur, forest regions, public health, and wildlife?” Ashok asked, criticising the Congress for being silent on environmental concerns that directly affect the people of Karnataka but quickly offering moral lessons when it comes to issues that fit their political narrative.
This, Ashok claims, exposes the Congress leadership’s real motives. He accused them of using “selective outrage” as part of their appeasement politics, aimed at winning over Kerala voters rather than addressing genuine humanitarian issues in Karnataka. “It’s about Congress high-command politics, Kerala appeasement, and election optics, especially with @priyankagandhi representing Kerala,” Ashok declared, accusing the party of playing election games rather than addressing real problems.
Karnataka’s dignity and autonomy
The post concluded with a sharp reminder to Congress: “Karnataka’s dignity, self-respect, and administrative authority cannot be compromised to please party managers sitting in Delhi. The people of this state did not vote for a remote-control government.”Ashok’s words resonated with many in the state who view such interventions as an affront to Karnataka’s autonomy and rights.
The BJP leader further emphasised that humanitarian concerns should be addressed through “law, due process, rehabilitation, and accountable state mechanisms,” rather than by “telephonic/social media instructions from party officials with no constitutional role.”In a final jab, Ashok declared, “Karnataka deserves respect, autonomy, and honest governance, not high-command theatrics.”
The real issue: Kerala appeasement
Ashok’s criticism is directed not only at the Congress high command’s intervention in Karnataka’s governance but also at what he perceives as a calculated effort to appease Kerala voters ahead of elections. He questions why the Congress leadership hasn’t shown similar urgency when dealing with issues that have affected Karnataka for years, including the illegal dumping of waste from Kerala and the neglect of Karnataka’s environment and farmers.
