Security forces as part of their ongoing expansion in Abujhmad, a densely forested zone spanning across Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions of Maharashtra have established around 20 such camps in 2025 alone.

The camps have been setup in Kutul, Dhobe, Padamkot, Jatloor, Rainar, Lanka, Toke and other remote areas strengthening the security apparatus in what was once considered the strongest fortress of Maoists. The camps were established as part of the ‘Maad Bachao Campaign’ being run by the police and the paramilitary units in Narayanpur.

According to the Union Government, more than 70 such security camps have been setup across Maoist-affected zones in the country since January this year. These camps will further solidify the presence of security forces in far-fledged zones enabling them to launch frequent operations and keep a vigil watch on Maoist activities.

Other than boosting the security infrastructure, the newly setup camps are also expected to play a vital role in executing the government welfare schemes such as the ‘Niyad Nelanar’ along paving way for long stalled development projects in these inaccessible pockets.

Benefits of government run welfare schemes are being provided to the citizens residing within the 5 kilometre range of each such security camps under the Niyad Nelanar scheme of the state government. The scheme also aims to provide basic facilities such as tap water, electricity and roads to the villagers of Maoist-hit remote localities.
