As security forces intensify operations against Maoists in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states, under sustained pressure following Operation Khagar, recent deaths of top Maoist leaders and renewed calls for surrender, 41 cadres of CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Telangana Police on December 19. The surrender took place in the presence of Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy.
Of the 41 surrendered cadres, 39 are from Chhattisgarh, while two are natives of Telangana. The group includes six senior functionaries holding Company Platoon Committee Member and Divisional Committee Member (CyPCM/DVCM) ranks. Along with the surrender, the cadres handed over 24 firearms, 733 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres and eight BGL shells.

The seized weapons include one INSAS Light Machine Gun, three AK-47 rifles, five SLR rifles, seven INSAS rifles, one BGL gun, four .303 rifles, one single-shot rifle and two air guns.
The two Telangana-based cadres were identified as Erragolla Ravi alias Santhosh (40), Secretary of the Komaram Bheem Asifabad–Mancherial Divisional Committee, and Kanikarapu Prabhanjan (33), a Party Member.
According to police, the remaining surrendered Maoists include 11 cadres from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion; five from the 2nd Central Regional Command Company of the Telangana State Committee; four from the Cherla–Shabari Area Committee; five from Platoon-33 of the South Sub-Zonal Bureau under the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC); nine from South Bastar DVC; four from Darbha DVC; and one from the Gangaloor Area Committee of West Bastar DVC.
Addressing the media, DGP Shivadhar Reddy said the surrender of arms and cadres has significantly weakened the operational and combat capability of CPI (Maoist) in the region.
Under the Telangana government’s rehabilitation policy, a total reward and rehabilitation package of ₹1.46 crore will be disbursed to the 41 surrendered cadres, with an interim relief of ₹25,000 each already provided.
The DGP revealed that 509 underground CPI (Maoist) cadres have surrendered before Telangana Police so far this year, including two Central Committee Members, 11 State Committee Members and several senior functionaries. He added that claims by the Maoist leadership that security operations would ease after March 31, 2026 are misleading, and urged remaining cadres to surrender and avail themselves of rehabilitation benefits.
