NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a diplomatic visit to three-nations in West Asia and the African continent. In the first leg of the series of bilateral visits, the Prime Minister visited the West Asian country of Jordan. PM Modi held bilateral discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah 2 of Jordan and a series of MoUs were inked to deepen the strategic ties. India and Jordan are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations which was established in 1950. At this pivotal bilateral juncture, both leaders committed to renew the relations and foster it on a much higher scale with greater vision and ambition.

PM Modi pitches 8-point vision to strengthen India-Jordan ties
During the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also pitched an eight-point vision to further consolidate the India-Jordan relations. This roadmap includes strengthening cooperation in the domain of trade and commerce. Fostering greater collaboration in the agriculture and fertilizer sector is also on the agenda. Other aspiring sectors of partnership include, information technology, healthcare, infrastructure development, critical and strategic minerals, civil nuclear cooperation and ultimately, people-to-people ties who act as the living bridge in bolstering bilateral relations. PM Modi asserted that these are the prospective areas of cooperation to foresee bilateral benefit and shared prosperity.

MoUs inked for partnership in digital domain, renewable energy & cultural preservation
The key outcomes of the Prime Minister visit to Jordan includes sealing of a series of Memorandum of Understanding(MoUs) related to diverse sectors from digital partnership to cultural cooperation. The MoUs inked are-
- MoU on technical cooperation in the field of New and Renewable Energy
- MoU on cooperation in the field of Water Resources Management and Development
- Twinning Agreement between Petra and Ellora
- Renewal of the Cultural Exchange Programme for the year 2025-2029
- Letter of Intent on cooperation in the field of sharing successful digital solutions implemented on population scale for digital transformation
These agreements are deemed as the need of the hour as they cater to renewable energy, water resource management etc. They are critical to tackle the problems associated with climate change and other catastrophes. With respect to digital partnership, India’s success story in the UPI paradigm and fostering solid digital public infrastructure can help Jordan in the path of implementation of the digital solutions.
Jordan also expressed keen interest in joining the International Solar Alliance(ISA), a renewable energy forum spearheaded by India to foster a healthier planet and ecosystem. Jordan also aspired to join other international forums led by India such as Global Biofuel Alliance and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure(CDRI), thus deepening the bilateral partnership in a wide arena.

Our cooperation in new and renewable energy reflects a shared commitment to clean growth, energy security and climate responsibility” PM Modi said in a post on the X social media platform. “Collaboration in water resources management and development will help us share best practices in conservation, efficiency and technology, ensuring long-term water security. The Twinning Agreement between Petra and Ellora opens new avenues for heritage conservation, tourism and academic exchanges. The renewal of the Cultural Exchange Programme (2025-2029) will deepen people-to-people ties. Sharing our digital innovations will support Jordan’s digital transformation and promote inclusive governance”, PM Modi further affirmed.

During the bilateral meeting, India also reiterated its support to the India-Jordan Centre of Excellence in Amman, the capital of Jordan which includes the training of 10 Master Trainers over a period of three years. PM Modi also addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum, during which opportunities and prospective areas of cooperation were explored to deepen trade, business and investment relations between both the countries. The business delegation from both the countries were present in the event.
Prime Minister Modi as a part of the three-nation diplomatic visit, in the second leg will visit the African country Ethiopia aiming to strengthen the bilateral ties and strategic relations across the African continent. The pretext to the diplomatic tour of PM Modi is fostering south-south cooperation and redefining the stronger diplomatic credentials across the Global South.
