In response to the sharp increase in passenger load triggered by widespread flight cancellations across the country, Indian Railways has deployed large-scale capacity augmentation measures, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Railways. The Ministry confirmed that 116 additional coaches have been attached to 37 trains, operating over 114 augmented trips nationwide to stabilise travel flow and ensure sufficient accommodation for stranded and diverted passengers.

Southern Railway has undertaken the highest number of augmentations, strengthening 18 trains with added Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches from 6 December 2025, significantly expanding capacity across key routes in the southern region.

Northern Railway has increased accommodation in eight trains with additional 3AC and Chair Car coaches from today onwards, addressing heavy demand on major northern corridors.

Western Railway has augmented four high-demand services, adding 2AC and 3AC coaches from 6 December 2025, mainly benefiting the high-traffic Mumbai–Delhi sector.

East Central Railway has stepped up capacity on the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi (12309) service with extra 2AC coaches over five trips between 6–10 December 2025, easing congestion on the crucial Bihar–Delhi corridor.

East Coast Railway has strengthened Bhubaneswar–New Delhi services (Trains 20817/20811/20823) by adding 2AC coaches over five trips, while Eastern Railway has implemented augmentations in three trains, deploying Sleeper Class coaches over six trips on 7–8 December 2025 to meet rising eastern sector demand.

Northeast Frontier Railway has expanded capacity on two key services with Sleeper and 3AC coaches over eight trips each from 6–13 December 2025, ensuring continuity of travel in the Northeast.

The Ministry further reported the operation of four special trains to support passengers during this disruption. The Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal–Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) will run four trips between 7 and 9 December 2025. The New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan–New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) will operate on 6 December 2025, providing premium connectivity to the Jammu region.
