Raipur: The official residence of Chhattisgarh Governor will now be known as “Lok Bhavan”, informed the state government in an official release issued on December 2.

The statement mentioned that the secretary of Governor, Dr. C.R Prasanna has issued an order renaming the official residence of Chhattisgarh Governor, as recommended by Ministry of Home Affairs.

Following the order by the secretary, the official residence of the Governor will now be known as ‘Lok Bhavan’ instead of ‘Raj Bhavan’.

“The order renaming the residence of the Governor was issued in compliance with a letter issued by the MHA,” read the statement.

“The decision about renaming of Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavanas was suggested during the Governor’s Conference in 2024,” it added.

According to details, a notification about the same has been sent to the MHA. Copies of the order have been sent to all the state government department, Prime Minister’s office, President’s secretariat etc. signalling that the new name to be adopted for all official communication and government communication.

The Union Government on Monday announced the renaming of Raj Bhavans across the country as Lok Bhavans.

Raj Bhavans across India are being renamed as Lok Bhavans, marking a broader shift towards seva-driven, citizen-first governance.

The Government also announced that the new complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office is to be called ‘Seva Teerth’. In addition, the Central Secretariat has also been re-designated as Kartavya Bhavan.

Earlier, the government had also renamed ‘Rajpath’ to ‘Kartavya Path’ and Race Course Road to ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’. The symbolic move underscores the government’s commitment towards providing a people centric governance.
