Other leaders including from the Opposition also paid their tribute to the brave official whose mortal remains were brought to Bohani on Thursday.

Sharma, a two-time gallantry medal winner was given a guard of honour by hawk force and police. There were heart wrenching scenes when the security personnel joined the last journey of their colleague who made supreme sacrifice fighting the Naxals on Wednesday.

The CM consoled the bereaved family and announced that the younger brother of Sharma will be appointed as a sub-inspector. He also announced to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family.

CM Mohan Yadav announced to build a park and a stadium in the memory of the brave official. He said that the story of Sharma’s sacrifice will always be remembered.

Sharma, a decorated official deployed in the hawk force, a unit of the MP police specialised in counter-insurgency received multiple bullet injuries during an encounter with Maoists near Chhattisgarh border.

The gun fight broke out in the forest areas under Bortalab police station limits where a joint team of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh was out on an anti-Maoist campaign.

Sharma sustained serious bullet injuries while leading the operation against Naxals, after which he was immediately rushed to Dongargarh where he succumbed to his injuries.
