Hidma (43), a native of Puvarthi village of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh was considered the mastermind of over two-dozen (26) attacks on security forces. This included the deadly ambush in Darbha in 2013, the Dantewada attack in 2010 and Sukma-Bijapur ambush in 2021.

The attack in Darbha valley, also known as the Jhiram Ghati massacre had resulted in killing of at least 27 people including prominent leaders of the Congress party. The Dantewada attack in 2010 was the deadliest of the attack carried out by the terror outfit till date which had led to martyrdom of 76 security personnel.

Hidma was the youngest to join the Maoist’s top brass and the only one from the tribal community in the Maoist’s powerful Central Committee. He also had served the head of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion no 01, the strongest unit of the extremists. The battalion is now reportedly headed by Barse Deva, another notorious Maoist commander from Puvarthi.

Meanwhile another fierce encounter is reportedly underway in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. According to the details, the gunfire is underway in the forest area under the Errabore police station.

“The exchange of fire broke out in the morning on a forested hill under Errabore police station limits when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area,” a police official said.

Earlier, three Naxals, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on November 16.

The gun battle took place in Kolmal Pat jungle area under Chintakonta police jurisdiction leading to neutralization of three hardcore Naxals. Those killed in the encounter were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 15 lakhs on their head.

Security forces have intensified operations in Maoist-affected areas after the Union Government announced to eliminate Maoist-insurgency from the country by March 2026.
