Hyderabad: Sri Vidyaranya International School, Bandlaguda Jagir, organised a unique “Market Place” activity on November 14, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote the overall development of students. The initiative, designed for Classes 3 to 10, aimed to extend learning beyond academics, cultural events, and in-campus sports by providing children with real-life social exposure and an understanding of day-to-day interactions.

The programme encouraged students to engage directly with everyday community settings, including street vendors, while learning about dignity of labour, etiquette, and responsible behaviour. The school described the effort as an innovative step towards bridging classroom learning with practical life skills.

The campus transformed into a bustling marketplace between 10 am and 2 pm, featuring food stalls, game corners, art and craft displays, and an ‘Ithihas’ section. Students showcased their creativity and teamwork by planning and managing stalls, displaying a range of ideas and collaborative efforts.

The parents of the children acted as buyers and purchased the products, engaging in bargaining to recreate a real market atmosphere. Students learned the basics of street-level business in an enjoyable manner and gained an understanding of how street vendors work.

A curated exhibit on 100 years of the RSS and a presentation marking SVIS’s five-year journey were also part of the event. Younger students from Grades 1 and 2 participated in a “Best Out of Waste” costume walk, presenting outfits made from recycled materials to highlight sustainability.

According to the school, the activity underscored the cooperation between teachers and parents. Many parents supported the preparations, offering guidance to the students. Among the visitors, Sreedhar Reddy, a parent and senior police officer, remarked that such fests help develop entrepreneurial skills, communication, and collaboration. He emphasised that students today need a blend of skills, knowledge, and the right attitude to succeed.

The event was attended by Kshetra (three states) Academic In-charge Ravula Suryanarayana, Secretary Visweswara Rao, Principal Dr Krishna Mohan, and coordinated by senior faculty members Ramadevi and Anuradha. With around 850 students participating, the school termed the day a memorable celebration of learning, creativity, and community engagement.

SVIS is established by Vidya Bharathi, Akhila Bharateeya Siksha Sansthan (VB), the biggest non-profit organization in the field of education, with over five decades of experience providing value based education all over Bharat.
