Karnataka: BJP slams Congress for ‘Low-level politics’ amid Delhi terror attack fallout & deepening farmer crisis

BJP state president B Y Vijayendra condemned the Congress for engaging in low-level politics amid the Delhi terror attack and the ongoing farmer crisis. He accused the party of inaction, contradictory statements, and neglecting public welfare, urging Congress to prioritise national security, farmers' interests, and development over internal power struggles and political theatrics

The BJP has sharply criticised the Congress party for indulging in low-level political manoeuvring instead of prioritising national security and public welfare. BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra, speaking to reporters in Shivamogga, condemned Congress leaders for their lack of coherent response to the recent terrorist attack in New Delhi and their failure to address pressing issues facing farmers in Karnataka.

“The recent car bomb blast in Delhi was a terrorist attack targeting critical national institutions such as Parliament House, BJP central office, Air Force office, and Army Bhawan. This was not the time for political point-scoring,” Vijayendra said. He emphasised that all political parties must demonstrate unity in such critical situations and refrain from issuing contradictory or opportunistic statements.

Vijayendra pointedly criticised Congress leaders, noting that the party has not provided a united or responsible stance following the attack. “As the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi has remained silent. Congress elders are speaking randomly, and some are attempting to link the tragedy to the Bihar elections. This is not just political folly; it borders on betrayal of the nation,” he said. The BJP leader urged the Congress to act collectively and responsibly rather than engaging in petty political theatrics that undermine public confidence and national morale.

He also highlighted the historical failures of Congress-led governments in addressing security threats. “During Congress rule, terrorist attacks resulted in significant casualties. Instead of taking preventive measures, the party blamed others. Today, their focus seems to be on political optics rather than national security,” Vijayendra said. He added that the Prime Minister and Home Minister must receive full support from all parties in combating terrorism, and Congress must stop politicising security issues for electoral gain.

Vijayendra further condemned the Congress state government in Karnataka for its apathy toward farmers. Despite holding a clear majority in the assembly, the government has failed to resolve ongoing issues concerning sugarcane and maize procurement. “Farmers in Belagavi, Bagalkot, Bidar, and Bijapur have been protesting for their due payments and crop compensation. Yet, ministers have remained absent, showing complete disregard for the welfare of those who feed the nation,” he said. Crop compensation promised within 30 days has not been fully disbursed for multiple districts, leaving farmers in distress.

The BJP leader accused Congress of attempting to portray the BJP’s support for farmers’ protests as political theatrics. “As an opposition party, it is our duty to stand with farmers and ensure their voices are heard. The Congress ministers’ absence during protests exposes their disconnect from ground realities,” Vijayendra remarked. He urged Congress to prioritise real issues over internal factional disputes and petty political wrangling.

Vijayendra also criticised the Congress government’s economic mismanagement. The repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices, coupled with a new one per cent cess under the pretext of welfare for unorganised workers, reflects the party’s insensitivity to public concerns. Meanwhile, local infrastructure projects, including pothole repairs, remain incomplete, with funds either unutilized or mismanaged. “The people are left to suffer while the Congress indulges in political bickering over the Chief Minister’s chair and election strategies,” he said.

Highlighting the broader implications of Congress’s governance failures, Vijayendra said, “Political opportunism during crises erodes public trust. The party must shift focus from self-interest to the welfare of the state, its farmers, and its citizens.” He concluded by urging the Congress leadership to demonstrate accountability, act responsibly, and abandon petty political theatrics that compromise governance, public safety, and development.
