Raipur: More than hundred people have reverted to Sanatan fold in Pandaria of Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh. The returnees were reunited with the faith and traditions of their ancestors in a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ ceremony held in Neur village on November 11.

A total of 115 people hailing from the Janjati (tribal) community returned to their ‘Mool Dharma’ at the ‘Sanskriti Gaurav Sammellan Evam Abhinandan Samaroh’ program. Those who made a return had earlier converted to other religions.

The returnees from as many as 41 families were welcomed back into their original faith by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Bhawna Bohra and others who washed the feet of returnees and felicitated them on the occasion.

Sharing the development, the BJP lawmaker in a post on X said ” Tribal culture, civilization, and identity are our heritage.”

“115 people from the tribal community residing in Vananchal region have re-entered their original faith and reconnected to their cultural roots by doing Ghar Wapsi,” said Bohra.

“On this occasion, washed the feet, welcomed and felicitated the members of tribal families, residing in Neur, Amania, Amlitola, Mahidabra, Khairahapara, Dafrapani, Damgarh, Sarapani and Birhuldih villages who have done Ghar Wapsi,” she added.

Bohra pointed out that this effort is to preserve the culture and religious faith of Chhattisgarh.

“This effort is to preserve and cherish the original and ancient culture, civilization, and religious faith of our Chhattisgarh. The conspiracies of those who lure our innocent tribal brothers and sisters with temptation for their personal interest and lead them astray are now being shattered,” she said.

Bohra also praised PM Modi and Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai for the welfare schemes aimed at upliftment, service and development of the tribal communities, asserting that these efforts undertaken by them have gained a new identity for the tribal community in the world.

She pointed out that free ambulance service and mobile health path labs are being operated in the constituency to provide better health facilities to the people of the tribal community.

She noted that more than 3000 PM Awas have been provided to the members of the community in Pandariya constituency alone. The BJP leader further said ” More than 100 kilometers of paved roads have been constructed and the community members no longer have to wander far to fetch water as clean drinking water is being delivered to them along with electricity and benefits of other government welfare schemes.”

She emphasised that “It is our duty to protect our tribal culture that safeguards water, forest and land and our efforts for this will continue relentlessly.”

It is to be noted that tribal-dominated pockets of the state have long been affected by conversion related activities with people from tribal communities often hitting the streets against illegal conversion activities and a demand to de-list those who have embraced any other religion and still availing benefits reserved exclusively for the community.
