Kerala CPM Leader who ridiculed Kerala Files faces love Jihad reality; daughter alleges house arrest in video

Bhaskaran reportedly responded to his daughter’s video message by claiming that Rashid, the man his daughter wishes to marry, is already married and only interested in acquiring Sangeeta’s assets worth Rs 1.5 crore, insisting that his feelings for her are not genuine.

According to reports from Kasaragod on October 25, the daughter of a CPM Area Committee member revealed through a video message that her father had locked her in their house and was subjecting her to brutal torture. The complaint comes from Sangeeta, the daughter of P. V. Bhaskaran, Uduma Area Committee member of the CPM in Kasaragod. Sangeeta stated that the torture began after she expressed her desire to marry a Muslim man from a different religion.

There are reports that Sangeeta has been living in misery and distress at home, especially as she has been paralysed below the waist following an accident.

Sangeeta alleges that she is under house arrest and has been denied medical treatment. She further accuses her father of attempting to seize her share of the family property and of trying to persuade her to commit suicide.

The girl reportedly revealed her ordeal to the public using a secret phone. She alleges that her father and brother appropriated the entire amount she had received as alimony following her divorce, and that she has been deprived of proper medical care. She claims the torture intensified after she expressed her wish to marry a man of a different faith. She further alleges that she was beaten on the head several times and told to “go and die.”

Sangeeta says her father threatened her, declaring that “Communism and similar matters have no place in this house.” He allegedly warned that he would kill her if she disobeyed him and boasted that he had the influence to escape any legal consequences. He reportedly told her: “You will never walk again in this life. You will perish in bed.”

Earlier, Sangeeta had filed a habeas corpus petition before the court with the help of a friend. However, it was not accepted as the police report stated she was living with her parents. She alleges that even though she tried to inform the police that she was under house arrest, they refused to listen to her grievances once they realised her father’s political influence.

Later, she approached higher police authorities, convinced that she would not receive justice from the local police. She lodged complaints with the District Superintendent of Police and the District Collector, detailing her plight. Afterwards, she released her message to the outside world. However, the Kasaragod police have not yet initiated any official action.

Bhaskaran reportedly responded to his daughter’s video message by claiming that Rashid, the man his daughter wishes to marry, is already married and only interested in acquiring Sangeeta’s assets worth Rs 1.5 crore, insisting that his feelings for her are not genuine.

Interestingly, PV Bhaskaran had earlier dismissed the film ‘The Kerala Story’ as mere propaganda by the ‘Sangh Parivar’. The film, however, depicted the phenomenon of ‘Love Jihad’. In Kerala, leaders of both the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) have consistently alleged that the very concept of ‘Love Jihad’ is nothing but fake and false. The underlying reason remains clear: pseudo-secularism and minority vote-bank politics.

Interfaith marriages, particularly those involving boys from the Muslim community and non-Muslim girls—whether Hindu or Christian—often end in targeted relationships. The Kerala Files illustrates how an entire ecosystem operates to control this narrative. It is commonly referred to as “Love Jihad,” where the boy must be Muslim, while the girl can belong to any non-Muslim faith. This kind of targeted approach is not confined to Kerala; it has spread across the country.
