With its commitment to empowering farmers, Sonalika Tractors believes in manufacturing top quality customised tractors, irrespective of the scale of volumes. With its roots in Hoshiarpur, this company has come a long way in empowering farmers in Bharat

Leadership is a strength that lays the foundation for the future and shapes the direction for generations to come. This belief has been turned into reality by Shri LD Mittal, founder and Chairman of Sonalika Tractors, whose determination transformed a visionary initiative into a remarkable Indian and global legacy. Today, Sonalika is Bharat’s No. 1 tractor export brand consistently for the last 7 years. It is also the third largest tractor brand in Bharat, which is the world’s biggest tractor market.

With a strong presence in 150+ countries, Sonalika Tractors has also earned its place of pride in Fortune 500 India 2024 companies and has been recognised among India’s Top 10 Automobile Brands 2024 – a true symbol of Indian excellence and global trust. More than just a story of a company’s success, it is a journey rooted in the soil that has empowered farmers to succeed and contributed whole-heartedly to nation-building with pride.

Initial Challenges: Sonalika was born on the soil of Hoshiarpur, a non-industrial region in Punjab. From here began the journey of becoming one of India’s most trusted and reputed tractor brands. LD Mittal’s three guiding principles – customer first, no compromise on quality, and ethics in business – have stood steadfast for the company, giving it the direction to keep moving forward from one milestone to another. He chose the path of self-reliance and integrity in the face of challenges to build a proud company. On each occasion, the brand emerged stronger under his guidance. Sh. Mittal firmly believes, “Koshish Karne Walon ki Kabhi Haar Nahi Hoti” and dreams do come true when the person believes in himself and the purpose.

Engineering Excellence

What began with manufacturing of threshers, expanded to tractor manufacturing in 1996 in response to the evolving needs of farmers. The biggest strength of Sonalika has always been its farmer-centric approach and the brand continued to strengthen its belief to deliver the best in everything irrespective of the scale of the business – be it the initial volume of 100 tractors a month, to nearly 15,000 tractors a month.

With a commitment to offer complete solutions to customers, the company progressed to developing its own engines, gearboxes, transmissions, and technology. This confidence has transformed into a monumental achievement that India proudly celebrates today – the establishment of the World’s No. 1 Integrated Tractor Manufacturing Plant at Hoshiarpur, in Punjab – manufacturing the widest range of heavy duty tractors in 20-120 HP.

This state-of-the-art manufacturing plant rolls tractors that are backed by robotic operations and automated production lines which are flexible to make different engines and transmission on the same assembly line. Till date, the plant remains unmatched in its capacities across the world.

Alongside, the brand continued to work closely with its vendors to handhold them in setting up their manufacturing base in Hoshiarpur, thus strengthening the business ecosystem in the region. Because of its strength in delivering tractors customised to soil and farming needs, over 17 lakh farmers today trust Sonalika.

Trust and Transparency

Owing to its farmer-centric approach, Sonalika is known for taking revolutionary steps for transparency in the tractor industry, which includes declaring its tractor prices of the entire range on the company’s official website – the first company to do so. It is following it up with declaring service cost and related spare part prices as well. The company’s reputation in the farming community is acknowledged by the Govt. of India by including Sonalika in the inspirational project of Niti-Aayog to double farmer’s income in the country.

Employee-Friendly During Pandemic

Sonalika takes pride in its family-oriented culture, which has helped the brand to navigate challenging times with unity and strength. LD Mittal believes that everyone who is associated with the brand is a part of ‘One Big family and everyone is important’. A case in point is the COVID-19 pandemic that tested industries globally, and Sonalika was no exception.

However, Sonalika stood as a shining example of resilience and care for its partners. The company prioritised its employees by paying their salaries in advance during uncertain times and did not lay-off a single worker in the period. Every supplier was paid-off on time and even in advance so that they too could take care of their employees and business needs. For LD Mittal, success has never been measured in numbers, but in impact. Guided by this belief, Sonalika continues to move forward with trust, responsibility, pride and commitment towards the progress of farmers and the nation.
