Guwahati: Security forces are on high alert after attacks on Army camp by Northeast insurgency groups in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. At around midnight on October 17, 2025, unidentified terrorists fired on the Kakopathar Company location from a moving vehicle. The troops on duty responded immediately and effectively taking due caution to avoid collateral damage to civilian houses in the close vicinity. Immediate and effective retaliation by the Indian Army forced the terrorists to flee the site after carrying out speculative firing using automatic weapons.
No major injuries were sustained other than minor abrasions to three personnel. The area has been sanitized and joint searches in coordination with police are being carried out. Banned outfit ULFA (I) claimed responsibility for the attack. The insurgency group claimed that the attack was planned in retaliation to the attack by the Indian Army in June this year in the ULFA (I) camps using drones and missiles.
Operations against proscribed insurgent:
An Operational Group meeting was convened at Lekhapani on October 18, 2025 to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen joint coordination among security forces operating in the regions of Nagaland, South Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The meeting aimed to enhance jointness and cohesion against insurgent activities in the region. The meeting was attended by Civil and Military Authorities.
With AFSPA being extended in certain areas of the region the meeting deliberated upon the prevailing security situation. Contributing to the deliberation, DIG, AR stressed upon the need to maintain a state of high vigilance and cohesive response by security stakeholders to thwart untoward incidents.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment among all security and intelligence agencies to maintain seamless coordination, enhance intelligence sharing and undertake proactive measures to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
