Sangh and Swaraj: Debunking fake narratives

Right from the Prime Ministership of Pt Nehru till today, Congress has been indulging in falsehood, prevarications and using crudest methods to defame RSS that stands for selflessness, commitment and has an incorruptible track record. Ironically, it was hand-in-glove with British colonials in the past

Hundred years of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh with the Swayamsevak and selfless Rashtra Sevak Narendra Modi issuing the postal stamp of RSS parading in Republic Day (1963) and issuing a hundred Rupee coin with Bharat Mata and Sangh sevaks bowing to her has made the Congressmen go wild. The same old rhetoric against the RSS that it collaborated with the British, non-participation in the freedom struggle etc. is repeated and shouted by Congress spokespersons on T.V. channels. The irony is that the sons of Razakars, who had not only fought the Indian forces in Hyderabad but also butchered many Hindus including Communists and had been always loyal to the British and the Nizam, spit venom against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The opportunistic power lusty politicians like Akhilesh Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mamata Banerjee and Stalin along with the Communists whose loyalties and service to Churchill during the Second World War are well recorded, also join the anti-RSS chorus. No doubt, the wailing by the Directors of this Anti-national Political Company goes louder and louder for retaining Islamist vote bank and the lust to be back in power.

Exponential Rise of Sangh

It is beyond imagination how historically illiterate they prove themselves to be as for them historical facts have no value and are to be twisted, distorted and suppressed to meet their present political agenda. This frustration also stems from the fact that in spite of the crudest methods adopted to defame the RSS it has been expanding rapidly among the masses and is the largest organisation in the world, out numbering heavily the dynastic slaves of the Nehru family and other political dynasties in India.

The founder of RSS Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, a Medicine Doctor had not only been a member of the revolutionary Anushilan Samiti during his medical education days in Kolkata but had also been an office bearer of the Congress, attended the Nagpur Session in 1920 and was arrested in 1921 by the British. This was a time when the Congress had gone all out for Islamist appeasement with Gandhi championing the cause of Khilafat which had nothing to do with India or the freedom struggle. One must also note here that the formation of Hindu organisations had been a reaction to the communal politics initiated by the Muslim aristocracy under the patronage of the British. Muslim League was formed in 1906 under British tutelage at Dhaka whereas the Hindu Mahasabha came to existence only in 1915 and the RSS in 1925. One should not forget here that the aim of both these organisations was to free India from the British yoke unlike the loyalist Muslim League. The demand and establishment of separate electorates for Muslims had facilitated communalism and the Hindu awakening was in retaliation to the fanatics of Muslim League.

The anti-RSS forces ignore to tell the people that when the Congress declared complete Independence at Lahore in December 1929 and celebrated January 26th as the Independence Day all the Shakhas of the RSS, on instructions from the Sarsanghchalak, had participated and celebrated it. These opponents won’t also acknowledge that Hedgewarji was jailed in the Jungle Satyagrah in 1930 at Talegaon in the Wardha district. The agitation was to fight against the forest laws imposed by the British that adversely affected the livelihood of the people. Unfortunately, this struggle doesn’t find a reference in the history that is taught. No doubt, the onslaught on the RSS was initiated by the British Government from Central Provinces only when circulars were issued banning the membership and participation of Government officials in RSS in 1932 and the same ban was extended on the teachers in 1933.

Conspiracy by Colonials & Congress

Declaring RSS as a communal organisation of Hindus was a very convenient garb that the British adopted, scared by the nationalist awakening that the RSS was creating. The “safety valve” acting mission of the Congress followed suit by opposing the RSS in June 1934. I would recall here that the very aim of A.O. Hume while establishing the Congress in 1885 was to have a safety valve for the British against the revolutionary forces. No doubt, the Congress performed his role extremely well till 1947 by opposing and condemning the revolutionaries, the peasants and workers movements, the Azad Hind Fauj and the Naval Uprising and ultimately achieving Dominion Status along with the creation of Pakistan on 15th August 1947. Why was the demand and struggle for complete Independence kept aside along with the principle of Swadeshi? The Congress leadership invited a British, Lord Mountbatten to become the first Governor General of the Indian Dominion, who even took oath for his office in the name of King with the renting of the slogans “Pundit Mountbatten Ki Jai” and the Union Jack not going down at the Viceregal lodge on assurance of  Jawaharlal Nehru.

Declaring RSS as a communal organisation of Hindus was a very convenient garb that the British adopted, scared by the nationalist awakening that the RSS was creating. The “safety valve” acting mission of the Congress followed suit by opposing the RSS in June 1934

There is no dearth of such freedom fighters who unlike the Congressmen never boasted of their struggle against the British, their sacrifices and contributions. Now Bharatiyas are fully aware of how their history was suppressed, or distorted by the Congress whose Prime Minister Nehru on the advice of Viceroys Wavell, Mountbatten and the Commander-in-Chief Auchinleck denied a place to the Azad Hind Fauj soldiers and officers in the Indian Army. The Azad Hind Fauj and the ratings of the Naval Uprising were not even termed as freedom fighters till 1973.

Ban on Sangh’s Uniform

In 1940, the British had put a ban on the uniform of the Sangh and its Route Marches again under the garb of the Sangh being a communal organisation. Was the Muslim League, that evolved from a communal organisation to an extremely fanatic organisation that even went for direct action massacring Hindus in 1946 on the commands of Jinnah, ever declared even a communal organisation by the British and banned? Never, for not only it was a British creation but also because of its consistent loyalty and support to the British during 1942 and the entire period of the Second World War. No doubt, Wavell had made plans under “Operation Madhouse” that in case of an uprising in 1945-46 they could create Pakistan and seek shelter there as immediate evacuation to England was not possible.

The revolutionary contributions of Hemu Kalani in Sindh in 1942 and his death sentence by the Army Court will not find a reference even in history books because he was a Swayamsevak of the Sangh?

In Maharashtra, the “Chimur Ashti” episodes are well known where Swayamsevaks like Balaji Raipurkar and Dada Nayak ran a parallel Government. Balaji lost his life in police firing whereas Dada Nayak was arrested and sentenced to death which was later commuted to imprisonment. Devipad Chaudhary and Jagatpati Kumar, two young Swayamsevaks, fell to the police bullets on August 11th 1942 along with four others after having hoisted the tricolour at the Secretariat in Patna. Many Congressmen were provided shelter at the houses of Swayamsevaks during 1942-45 to carry on their underground activities. None other than the firebrand Aruna Asaf Ali acknowledged that she was sheltered by Lala Hansraj, a Swayamsevak, in his house at Delhi for 10-15 days.

Remembering Syamaji’s Sacrifice

How many people know that Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Finance Minister of the Collation Government in Bengal, not only protested against the British repressive policy during the Quit India Movement but ultimately as a protest resigned from his post? On August 12th 1942 itself, Mukherjee wrote to the Viceroy Lilithgo that: “For the sake of winning the war and for mobilising public opinion and the great resources of India, it is essential that India should have a free political status immediately. It is not enough for you to declare that India will attain freedom after the war.”

Mookerjee had stated in this letter: “The demand of the Congress as embodied in its last resolution virtually constitutes the national demand of India as a whole.”

From September 1945, the Sangh, though a banned organisation, actively supported, participated and at many places led the movement for the release of Azad Hind Fauj prisoners

He further warned the Government: “Repression is not the remedy at this critical hour. Indeed the history of all countries struggling for freedom amply discloses that the greater the repression from the ruling power, the more intense is the spirit of resistance of the people who regard themselves as oppressed and downtrodden. There is none who is satisfied with the present system of Indian administration, and an immediate transfer of power is essential for the solution of the Indian deadlock. The substance of the Congress demand is nothing more than this.”

In no uncertain terms, Mookerjee demanded that: “The British Government should declare that India’s freedom is formally recognised.”

In the same letter, he stated that if the British Government allowed the present situation to continue he “must regretfully ask my Governor to relieve” him of his “duties as a Minister, so that” he “may have full freedom to help to mobilise public opinion in demanding a settlement”. Was this not patriotism and support for the freedom struggle? He waited for a while and on November 16th 1942 he submitted his resignation.

Sangh’s Role in Release of Prisoners

From September 1945, the Sangh, though a banned organisation, actively supported, participated and at many places led the movement for the release of Azad Hind Fauj prisoners. The Hindu Mahasabha Secretary even warned the British not to touch the brave Azad Hind Fauj warriors as they had joined the force on the instructions of Veer Savarkar. The Sangh honoured Col. GS Dhillon after his release from Red Fort in Bombay at a secret meeting in January 1946.

Cong Hand-in-glove with Colonials

The anti-RSS lobbies keep shouting against Savarkar and the RSS for apologising from the British or supporting the British forgetting the actions of their own leaders. Motilal Nehru’s apology for his son Jawaharlal from the Nabha Jail is well known. The people must know that Viceroy Wavell got Nehru released from the Kashmir Jail in 1946. They accuse Savarkar and in a debate a Congress spokesperson tried to teach me that Nehru went 13 times to jail. My question to him was name me a single jail where Nehru worked on the grinder or was made to act as oxen to extract oil, or was hung upside down or put in solitary confinement that the brutalities Veer Savarkar suffered and yet survived. Instead of answering this, he shouted oh! You are an RSS man – a cry they always make in the absence of any answer they can give.
