NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria on October 2 praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the organisation celebrated its 100th anniversary. He said that the world needs more such organisations dedicated to social service without seeking recognition.
Kaneria, the second Hindu cricketer to represent Pakistan, wrote on X, “The world needs more organizations like RSS—dedicated to social service without seeking recognition. I’ve seen their work across the globe: helping communities, supporting the needy, empowering youth. No caste, no religion, no boundaries, just service. I salute every volunteer carrying this mission forward.”
Notably, Pakistani spinner has repeatedly stated that he faced discrimination in Pakistan for being Hindu, which ultimately destroyed his career. Now residing in the UK, he has also accused Pakistan of giving shelter to terrorists.
After the Pahalgam terror attack, Kaneria openly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi while criticising Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his silence.
Posting on X, Kaneria said, “If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet? Why are your forces suddenly on high alert? Because deep down, you know the truth – you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you.”
Earlier, Kaneria had also claimed that former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi had attempted to convert him to Islam.
Kaneria revealed that Pakistani cricketers abused Hindu deities and hurled derogatory remarks at him.
“Whatever I faced in the Pakistani Cricket Team was horrific. They hurled religious abuses at me. They abused my deities. All I thought was that I should perform better—that only performance can secure my place. Yet, there were so many players in the team despite poor performance. On the other hand, people in India are educated and cultured. They respect each other. Pakistani cricketers must learn to ‘live and let live.’”
It is also to be noted that former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, in a chat show, had acknowledged that Kaneria was treated unfairly by his Pakistani teammates simply because he was Hindu. According to Akhtar, Kaneria’s teammates even stopped him from eating food at the same table due to his faith.
