Sangh has consistently worked to unite people, while strengthening Bharat both materially and spiritually: Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama sends special message to RSS on its centenary celebrations

Marking the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the 14th Dalai Lama paid rich tributes to the organisation, describing its hundred-year journey as “a rare and unparalleled example of dedication and service.”

In his special message, the 90-year-old spiritual leader said the Sangh has contributed immensely to both the spiritual and material development of Bharat while maintaining its foundation in purity and selfless service. “The organisation was founded in a spirit of selflessness, guided by a clear and pure sense of duty without expectation of reward. Everyone who joins the Sangh learns to live a life rooted in purity of mind and sanctity of means,” he noted.

The Dalai Lama praised the Sangh’s work in uniting people across the nation and its active role in strengthening Bharat’s social fabric. “It has worked in the remote and challenging regions of Bharat, contributing to educational and social development, and providing vital support in disaster-affected areas,” he said, underlining its wide impact across diverse communities.

Reflecting on his personal association, the Tibetan spiritual leader expressed admiration for Sangh-inspired institutions. “Over the past 50 years, I have had the opportunity to observe the Sangh and Sangh-inspired institutions closely, and I have been deeply impressed by their activities,” he said.

Highlighting three core responsibilities in his own life—promoting universal human values, strengthening interfaith harmony, and preserving Bharatiya knowledge traditions—the Dalai Lama observed that the Sangh has consistently worked in all these directions. “This fosters my natural sense of respect and appreciation for it,” he added.

Importantly, he recalled the Sangh’s humanitarian role in supporting Tibetan refugees, noting that the organisation had extended assistance from the very beginning of their displacement.

As the RSS completes 100 years since its founding by Dr. K.B. Hedgewar in 1925, the Dalai Lama’s message stands as a strong recognition of the Sangh’s spiritual vision and grassroots contributions in shaping society and aiding those in need.
