An incident involving alleged Christian conversion activities has come to light in Jamkhambhaliya, located in Gujarat’s Devbhoomi Dwarka district. Police have registered an FIR against three individuals, including a married couple, following complaints from Hindu organisations. The incident reportedly occurred on September 28 in the Shakti Nagar area of Jamkhambhaliya.
The accused have been identified as Deepak Raghuveer singh Guru singh Vishwakarma, his wife Deepaben Deepakbhai Vishwakarma, both originally from Nepal, and Mukesh Subhashbhai Ajnar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. All three have been taken into custody.
According to media reports, a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) alerted the organisation’s District Vice President, Kiranben, about alleged conversion activities taking place in a residential building located behind the Shrinathji School in Shakti Nagar. It was claimed that individuals were being offered money as an incentive to convert to Christianity. Upon receiving this information, Kiranben and her husband, Vijay Kumar Mansukhlal Kataria, informed Praveen Singh Kanchwana, the VHP’s Saurashtra Province Dharmacharya Sampark Pramukh, who further escalated the matter.
Later that same day, around 11:45 am, Kiranben, along with other members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, reached the location. Upon arrival, they reportedly found around 25 to 30 Hindus, including several women, gathered at the site. According to the VHP members, the three accused were preaching about Jesus Christ and allegedly offering money as an inducement to convert to Christianity. Acting swiftly, the police registered an FIR and arrested the accused the same day.
As per the FIR, all the individuals present at the gathering were Hindus who had been invited by the accused to attend a Christian prayer meeting. Many of those present were migrant labourers from various districts of Madhya Pradesh, such as Alirajpur, Dhar, and Jhabua, and are currently residing in nearby villages around Jamkhambhaliya.
The Khambhalia Police have booked the three individuals under Section 4 of the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2003, and Section 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
