Ahilyanagar witnessed violent clashes on September 29, following a controversy over a rangoli design with the inscription ‘I Love Mohammed’ in the Maliwada area. The artwork, created by unidentified individuals, triggered protests from members of the Muslim community, who claimed that their religious sentiments were hurt.

Hundreds gathered outside Kotwali police station, demanding action against those responsible. As the protest turned violent, police resorted to mild lathi charge at several locations to restore order.

Police Crack Down, 30 Arrested

Officials confirmed that 30 individuals were arrested during the unrest. “We have identified the miscreants involved in making the rangoli. A case has been registered against two persons, one of whom is already in custody,” said a senior police officer.

Authorities further added that heavy deployment of security personnel has been made across sensitive areas of the city. Citizens have been urged not to spread or believe in rumours that could escalate tensions.

Another attempt to create a law and order situation by “I Love Muhammad” protesters:

Situation Under control, High alert in city

Following the incident, the police assured that the situation was under control. Additional forces have been stationed at key locations, and peace committees have been asked to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain harmony.

Meanwhile, soon after Friday prayers, Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh witnessed heightened tension as clashes broke out between protestors and police. To disperse the swelling crowd, Uttar Pradesh Police resorted to force, leading to violent confrontations in which several protestors as well as police personnel sustained injuries, and multiple vehicles were vandalised.

There as well, police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.
