New Delhi: A joint team comprising of personnel from Jharkhand Jaguar [JJ] Special Task Force and Gumla police gunned down three members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad [JJMP], a splinter group of CPI [Maoist], said officials on September 24.
The encounter took place in the Kechaki forest area under Bishunpur police station limits of Gumla district on Wednesday morning which resulted in neutralization of three Maoists of JJMP faction. The operation was launched after the police received information about JJMP members camping in the forest area.
One of the deceased Maoist has been identified as Chotu Oraon who was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head. The police team has also recovered an AK-47 rifle, one INSAS and a SLR from the site of the gunfight. As per officials, the encounter on Wednesday inflicted a decisive blow to JJMP faction.

A joint team of CoBRA and police on September 15 neutralized three hardcore Maoists including Central Committee Member [CCM] of outlawed CPI [Maoist] Sahdeo Soren alias Pravesh and Raghunath Hembram, a member of the Special Area Committee in Hazaribagh. The gunfight took place in the forest area under the jurisdiction of Gorhar police station limits.
The joint team following the operation recovered three bodies along three AK-47 rifles. A large quantity of ammunition, Maoist literature and technical equipment were also recovered from the site of gun battle.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah following the operation praised the bravery of security personnel. In a post on X, Home Minister Shah said “the CoBRA Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand police have achieved a huge success in an anti-Naxal operation in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand today. In this operation, notorious Naxal commander with ₹1 crore bounty, CCM Sahdev Soren alias Parvesh has been neutralized. Two other bounty Naxals Raghunath Hembram alias Chanchal and Birsen Ganjhu alias Ramkhelawan have also been eliminated by the security forces.”
Shah noted that “following this anti-Naxal operation, Naxalism has been completely eradicated from the Bokaro region of northern Jharkhand. ”
He emphasised that “soon, the entire country will be free from the menace of Naxalism.”

Police on July 26 had also gunned down three hardcore JJMP Maoists in an encounter under the jurisdiction of Ghaghra police station in Gumla district. The security team after the gun fight had also recovered an AK-47 and two INSAS rifles from the spot. Security forces in a separate operation in May had also neutralised JJMP supremo Pappu Lohra.
Multiple Maoist’s group such as People’s Liberation Front of India [PLFI], Tritiye Sammelan Prastuti Committee [TSPC], JJMP and CPI [Maoist] has an active presence in Jharkhand with security forces gaining significant ground against them and firming their presence in erstwhile Maoist strongholds in recent time. Only two districts in the state remained affected by Maoist-insurgency at present, as per a release issued by the Union Government recently.
