Bhubaneswar: As part of the nationwide Seva Pakhwada commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, a significant mini marathon was organized today in Bhubaneswar under the Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign). The event saw enthusiastic participation from thousands of youths who pledged to contribute to building a drug-free India.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi flagged off the marathon at Kalinga Stadium and joined the run himself, symbolizing solidarity with the campaign’s message. The marathon concluded at Janata Maidan, where the Chief Minister ran alongside students, athletes, young citizens, and several leaders, spreading awareness against drug abuse.

Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi urged the people of Odisha to actively support Prime Minister Modi’s new initiative to create a drug-free India. “This vision of Modi Ji will inspire the youth to play a leading role in nation-building. I have complete faith in the knowledge, skills, and sense of responsibility of our youth,” he stated.

The Chief Minister highlighted how several initiatives by Prime Minister Modi have already transformed the nation. He noted that poverty has decreased to its lowest level, electrification and safe drinking water have reached nearly every village, and flagship schemes such as Make in India, Digital India, and Stand-Up India are guiding the country towards self-reliance.

Addressing the issue of substance abuse, Majhi expressed concern over the increasing consumption of alcohol, gutkha, cigarettes, cannabis, and synthetic drugs among the youth. “Addiction does not just destroy an individual; it devastates families. It leads to academic failure, deteriorating health, rising crime, and disharmony within households. A young person addicted to drugs not only shatters the dreams of their parents but also shifts from being the nation’s strength to a burden,” he warned.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Prime Minister Modi has entrusted the responsibility of creating a drug-free India to the country’s youth. He administered a pledge to the thousands present, calling on them to dedicate their energy and commitment to this transformative mission.

After the marathon, CM Majhi made an impromptu visit to a roadside tea stall near Fire Station Square. There, he interacted warmly with ordinary citizens, sipping tea with them and listening to their concerns. He inquired about the health of elderly women, asked senior citizens about the implementation of government welfare schemes, and encouraged students to focus on their studies while warning them about the harmful effects of drug addiction.

BJP Yuva Morcha State President Abhilash Panda was also present at the program.
