In a horrific hate crime incident, a Sikh woman was allegedly raped by two men at a public park in Oldbury, United Kingdom in a broad daylight. It is also said that while assaulting the woman, two white men demanded the victim to go back to her own country. The police have deciphered the case as a racially motivated hate crime.

The incident has taken place on September 9(Tuesday), around 8:30AM off the Tame Road in a public park. The woman is said to be in her 20s. The two white men are described as, one is heavy built with a shaven head and was wearing a dark sweatshirt and gloves while the other man was seen in a grey top with a silver zip. Police has initiated a manhunt across the region to arrest the culprits.

Police has also requested for the CCTV, dashcam or mobile footages, if any available in the nearby locality and has urged the people with the information to come forward and help in identifying and arresting the culprits. The police has also exclaimed that forensic enquiries are underway to trace and capture the culprits.

West Midlands Police in a statement has said, “this was a horrific attack. We are appealing to anyone who saw two men in the area or has CCTV or has dashcam footage to contact us urgently”. Meanwhile the victim woman is receiving specialist care and support to recover from the horrific assault.

Member of Parliament from the Labour Party Preet Kaur Gill has also severely condemned the inhumane incident and said that overt racism is deeply concerning. “This was an act of extreme violence but is also being treated as racially aggravated, with the perpetrators reportedly telling her that she does not belong here. Our Sikh community and every community has the right to feel safe, respected and valued. She does belong here. Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury or anywhere in Britain”, Preet Kaur asserted. While criticizing the act of extreme violence and racism Ms. Preet Kaur also promised to work with the police to ensure justice and improve safety for the Sikh community.

I am deeply shocked by the horrific attack on a young Sikh woman in Oldbury.

Jas Athwal, Member of Parliament from Ilford South described the crime against the Sikh woman as “vile, racist, misogynist attack”. “Let’s be clear. This attack is a result of the rising racial tensions in our country and now a young woman has been left traumatized for life”, Mr. Jas Athwal added.

Meanwhile, the members of the Sikh community has expressed extreme anger, frustration and disappointment as there has been a raise in the atrocities targeting the members of the community in the recent months. Not even a month ago, two elderly Sikh men were severely assaulted by three teenagers outside a railway station in the United Kingdom. However, a local senior cop has mentioned that the anger of the Sikh community is “fully understandable” and he also assured to increase patrols in the area.
