The Government of India will observe the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah from September 12 to October 11, 2025, marking yet another step in its nationwide campaign to strengthen nutrition literacy and ensure healthier futures for citizens. First launched in 2018, the initiative has now become a people’s movement, encouraging communities to come together for improved dietary habits, awareness, and preventive health.
This year’s Poshan Maah carries special significance as it integrates the objectives of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 by involving citizens directly in local awareness drives, conversations, and events. The overarching aim is to not only fight malnutrition but also ensure a holistic approach to nutrition, covering issues such as undernutrition, obesity, dietary diversity, and environmental sustainability.
Themes of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025
The government has identified multiple focus areas for this year’s campaign, making it broader and more inclusive than ever before:
1. Anaemia Prevention and Healthy Diets: Citizens will be urged to reduce sugar and oil intake while adopting iron-rich and diverse diets.
2. Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE)- Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi: Aligned with the National Education Policy, this seeks to build the world’s largest preschool network.
3. Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: A unique campaign linking tree plantation drives with nutrition awareness, ensuring sustainability and health go hand in hand.
4. Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices: Special emphasis will be placed on proper feeding habits for children under two years of age.
5. Men’s Role in Nutrition: Recognising the importance of shared responsibility, men will be encouraged to actively participate in caregiving and nutrition awareness at home.
Role of Technology: The Poshan Tracker
Technology continues to be central to Poshan Abhiyaan. The Poshan Tracker, a mobile-based application launched in 2021, has now become a vital tool for Anganwadi workers across the country.
Developed by the National e-Governance Division, the app helps register beneficiaries, track children’s growth, and monitor delivery of nutrition services in real time. Key features include Aadhaar-based e-KYC, WHO-standard growth monitoring, and advanced reporting tools for government authorities.
The app even integrates a Poshan Tracker Calculator, allowing Anganwadi workers to assess a child’s growth and suggest corrective measures, thereby ensuring data-driven action against malnutrition.
New Healthcare Push: Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan
Adding to the nutrition campaign, BJP President JP Nadda announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan on September 17, 2025. The initiative is aimed at boosting healthcare services for women and children nationwide.
As part of the campaign, 75,000 health camps will be set up across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres, and other medical facilities between September 17 and October 2. These camps will provide specialised services focusing on women’s reproductive health, child care, and preventive health awareness.
Nadda has also appealed to private hospitals and healthcare stakeholders to join the campaign, describing it as a “Jan Bhagidaari Abhiyan” (People’s Participation Movement).
Why Poshan Maah matters
The Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 is not merely a nutrition awareness drive; it is part of a long-term strategy to combat India’s double burden of malnutrition, where undernutrition and obesity exist side by side. With over 142 crore Aadhaar-registered residents, the scale of Poshan Abhiyaan makes it one of the largest social campaigns in the world.
The strength of this initiative lies in its community-based approach, where Anganwadi workers, mothers, schools, and even men are brought together to create a culture of healthy eating and caregiving. The inclusion of sustainability initiatives like “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” also reflects a shift toward aligning nutrition with environmental consciousness.
As India heads into the 8th edition of Poshan Maah, the government’s message is clear: good health begins with good nutrition. By combining technology, grassroots participation, and dedicated healthcare initiatives, the campaign aims to build stronger families and healthier communities.
With PM Modi personally launching new healthcare schemes under this framework, and nationwide awareness programmes rolling out through Anganwadis, the initiative represents not just a health mission but a broader vision for a “Viksit Bharat”.
