Criticisms spike for the misplaced India policy of the US President Donald Trump. He continues to attract repeated churns for his tariff tantrums and irrational tariffs imposed on India. Leaders’ and subject experts warn him of losing a vital strategic partner, India, as an impact of his unreasonable demands and selfish geopolitical or economic ambitions. From the President of Finland to the democrat leader Ro Khanna and former NSA Jake Sullivan, everyone took a sharp jibe at Donald Trump and asserted that Trump should rectify his mislead policies concerning to India, for the larger benefit of the US and to remain as a predominant player in the rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape.
US might ‘lose the game’: Finland President
In the backdrop of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) Summit held at Tianjin, China, the President of Finland Alexander Stubb warned the United States and other western countries that it might ‘lose the game’ to SCO. He thus suggested that the US should adopt a more respectful and cooperative approach in dealing with India and other countries of the Global South.
“My message to you, my European colleagues, and particularly to the US, is that if we don’t engage in a more cohesive and dignified foreign policy, especially with regard to Global South countries such as India, we will lose”, Mr. Stubb reiterated. “I think this meeting in China (the 25th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council) is a good reminder to the Global West of what is at stake”, Finland President further added while speaking to reporters along with his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda.
Comments from the Finland President comes, despite it is being said that he has a great personal rapport with Donald Trump. He is said to have built a partnership with Trump while playing seven-hour marathon golf in Florida. In the previous week, Finland President had also dialled PM Modi to discuss his perspective and assessment on the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump is irked because PM Modi didn’t nominate him for Noble: Ro Khanna
US Congressman and Democrat Ro Khanna has taken a sharp jibe at Donald Trump and said that the Trump administration imposed massive tariffs on India, because Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not nominate him for a Noble Peace Prize.
Mr. Ro Khanna took to his X platform and severely slammed the US president for slashing sweeping tariffs on India. He has called the 50 per cent tariffs on India as “harsher than those on China”. He also criticized Trump for debunking the 30 years of humungous and bipartisan efforts to weave the India-US strategic partnership, just to fulfil his personal ambitions.

“As the co-chair of the US-India caucus, I want to sound the five-alarm fire on what Donald Trump is doing to destroy the US-India partnership”, Mr. Khanna added. He affirmed that the tariffs are not only hurting India’s exports of leather and textiles into the United States but also it is hurting the American manufacturers and American exports to India.
He further criticized Trump by asserting that Trump did all these things for a very simple reason that Prime Minister Modi refused to nominate Donald Trump for the Noble Peace Prize and refused to give credit to the US President for the halt of India-Pakistan conflict, as New Delhi strongly reiterated that the border dispute with Pakistan is purely an internal matter. Finally, the Indian-origin US Congressmen Ro Khanna sharply claimed that the ego of Donald Trump cannot be allowed to destroy the decades of strategic partnership with India.
Trump shattered relations with India for Family deals in Pakistan: NSA Sullivan
Another major direct and sharp criticism for the Trump’s India policy came from former National Security Advisor(NSA) Jake Sullivan. He has accused that Trump sidelined and thwarted the strategic relations with India in order to fulfil his family’s business ambitions with Pakistan.
He further reiterated that cold relation between New Delhi and Washington indeed is a ‘huge strategic harm’ for the geopolitical interests of the United States and it doesn’t just harm India. In lines with Ro Khanna, even NSA Sullivan highlighted how relentlessly and persistently US has built the strategic partnership with India since decades in a bipartisan approach. India is a kind of country that US can align with in every strategic domain from technology to talent and economy.
“On a bipartisan basis, going back decades, the United States has worked to build its relationship with India, the world’s largest democracy. A country that we should be aligned with on technology, talent and economics and so many other issues, and aligned with in dealing with the strategic threat from China,” Sullivan said while speaking for MeidasTouch, a YouTube channel.
He accused Trump for throwing away the relations with India and the significant progress achieved in strengthening the bilateral relations, just because he had family business deals with Pakistan. NSA Sullivan also opined that as an impact of Trump’s actions, every other country in the world will look at the USA with an apprehension and think that they cannot trust and rely on USA.
“Our word should be our bond. We should be good for what we say. Our friends should be able to rely on us, and that has always been our strength. And what’s happening with India right now has huge direct impacts. But it also has this reverberating impact across all our relationships and partnerships in the world,” Mr. Sullivan added.

Trump is increasingly facing criticisms for his approach towards India and many have warned him of losing a vital partner, India, which is the world’s largest democracy, 4th largest economy and a significant player in the Indo-Pacific. Previously American economists such as Richard Wolff, Jeffrey Sachs and former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had criticized Trump tariffs on India as a self-defeating move, strategic blunder and with such policies US is shooting itself.
However, will Donald Trump realize these repeated warnings emanating within US and rectify his irrational tariffs, unreasonable demands and engage or negotiate with India in a reasonable, credible and in a mutually beneficial way, is indeed an enigma!
