Delhi: Bomb threats hit DPS Dwarka, other schools; police, bomb squads scramble amid rising hoax scares

Multiple Delhi schools, including DPS Dwarka, received bomb threats today, triggering evacuations and swift police response. Though past threats proved hoaxes, authorities are treating the incidents seriously, deploying bomb squads and cyber teams for investigations

A fresh wave of bomb threats has once again rattled Delhi’s education institutions, with multiple schools in Dwarka and beyond targeted early August 18 morning. Among the institutions that received threatening emails were Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, Modern Convent School, and ShreeRam World School in Sector 10, Dwarka. The situation prompted immediate evacuations as Delhi Police and bomb disposal squads rushed to secure the premises.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, DPS Dwarka received a direct threat via phone call today, triggering swift evacuation of students and staff. At the same time, coordinated threats were emailed to other schools, forcing authorities to treat the matter with utmost seriousness. “All necessary precautions are being taken. Bomb disposal squads are conducting thorough searches,” an official confirmed.

This is not the first time that Delhi schools have been targeted. In July, a series of similar bomb threat emails triggered chaos at multiple institutions, including Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Sovereign School in Rohini Sector 24, Modern International School in Dwarka Sector 19, and Heritage School in Rohini Sector 23. Principals and school authorities, while acknowledging the repeated hoaxes, continue to stress that each alert must be treated with full seriousness to avoid any lapse in student safety.

Richmond Global School Principal, Moupali Mitra, recounted her institution’s experience in July: “We are keeping an eye on every kind of message. We received the mail threat at 10.52 am and mailed the Commissioner of Police at 10.58 am. Immediately, the bomb squad and other teams arrived along with the Cyber department. We cross-checked every corner of the school, and it is absolutely safe. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the children. Some anti-social people are spreading such rumours, and we all must stand against them. The school is functioning normally.”

The menace has not been limited to schools alone. Delhi University colleges including Indraprastha College for Women, Hindu College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) also received bomb threats via email last month, forcing emergency evacuations and triggering police deployments across North Campus.

So far, investigations into earlier threats have revealed no explosives at any of the targeted premises, but the sheer frequency of these scare tactics is raising concern among parents, teachers, and security agencies alike. Officials fear that repeated hoax calls may be part of a larger coordinated attempt by anti-social elements to disrupt normalcy and spread panic among students and guardians.

Police sources confirmed that cyber cells are tracking the origins of the emails while security forces continue to patrol sensitive areas. The Delhi Fire Department also confirmed that their teams remain on high alert and are working in tandem with the police to ensure rapid emergency responses.
