The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) has officially released the notification for Direct Recruitment 2025, announcing 4,543 vacancies for the posts of Sub-Inspector (Civil Police) and equivalent ranks, including Platoon Commander in PAC/IRB and Fire Station Second Officer. This large-scale recruitment is being done to strengthen UP’s policing capacity and address the growing need for trained officers in both general law enforcement and specialized roles. The application process for these posts commenced from August 12, 2025, and will remain open until September 11, 2025.
Candidates will be able to apply only through the online mode, and before doing so, it is mandatory to complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on the official recruitment portal at https://apply.upprpb.in. The OTR process is to simplify future recruitments, and will store applicants’ personal details in the system, ensuring that they do not have to repeatedly enter the same information for subsequent UPPRPB recruitments. Once registered, applicants must ensure that they upload a recent passport-sized colour photograph in the correct format. UPPRPB Chairman Ashok Kumar Singh has emphasised the importance of the OTR process, stating that it is a one-time requirement that will significantly simplify the application procedure for future recruitments. He has also warned candidates to avoid submitting multiple registrations or providing incorrect details, as this could lead to disqualification.
According to the notification, 4,242 of the announced vacancies have been reserved for male candidates, while 301 are meant for female candidates. The minimum educational qualification required for all applicants is a graduation degree from a recognized university or institution. The age criteria for general category candidates have been fixed between 21 and 28 years as on July 1, 2025, meaning candidates must have been born between July 2, 1997, and July 1, 2004. Age relaxations will be available as per government rules, with candidates belonging to OBC, SC, and ST categories receiving a relaxation of up to five years. Ex-servicemen and other reserved categories will be granted further relaxations in accordance with the UP Police Sub-Inspector Service Rules, 2008, and related government orders.
The recruitment process will involve several stages designed to test candidates’ knowledge, skills, and physical fitness. The first stage will be a computer-based written examination covering General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Numerical Ability, Reasoning, and Law.
Candidates who qualify in the written exam will proceed to the Physical Standard Test (PST), where their height, chest measurements (for male candidates), and weight will be recorded according to category-specific norms.
The next stage will be the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which will assess stamina and agility through a timed running event, male candidates will be required to complete a 4.8-kilometre run within the stipulated time, while female candidates will need to complete a 2.4-kilometre run.
Candidates who successfully clear these stages will move on to document verification, where their educational, caste, and other certificates will be thoroughly checked.
Finally, a comprehensive medical examination will be conducted to ensure candidates meet the physical health standards required for service in the police force.
The application fee for all candidates has been fixed at Rs 400, which must be paid online through debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI. Applicants should keep a printout of their payment receipt and submitted application form for future reference.
The recruitment will strictly adhere to the state government’s reservation policy. In addition to the general reservation categories for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and women, special quotas will be provided for outstanding sportspersons recognised by the state government, ex-servicemen, and persons with disabilities, in accordance with the relevant acts and rules. The UPPRPB has urged candidates to read the detailed advertisement carefully before applying, ensuring they meet all eligibility requirements, including educational qualifications and physical standards.

The Board has made it clear that all stages of the recruitment process will be conducted transparently and in accordance with established procedures, leaving no room for external influence or irregularities.
The recruitment of over 4,500 Sub-Inspectors and equivalent officers is expected to significantly boost the operational capabilities of the Uttar Pradesh Police, which is already the largest state police force in the country. With the increasing challenges of crime prevention, law enforcement, and public safety, the addition of trained officers at this level will help improve policing efficiency, investigative capabilities, and community engagement. The inclusion of Platoon Commanders and Fire Station Second Officers in the recruitment will also strengthen specialised areas such as riot control, disaster management, and fire safety operations.
