Guwahati: In a sensational incident 9 Rohingya illegally residing in India were arrested by police in Cachar district of Assam. The group of Rohingya was attempting to cross the border to enter Bangladesh.

As per report, locals saw suspicious movement of a group in Katigorah area of Cachar district near the International border. They quizzed the group and on suspicion called the local police to the spot. In the initial investigation of police the group confessed that they are Rohingya illegally residing in India and were planning to cross the international border at night.

The intruders revealed that they entered India 10 years ago with the help of touts through the border in Cachar and went to Hyderabad using fake Indian ids. They worked there for years using the same fake ids as labourers and house help. But seeing the latest crackdown the group decided to flee to Bangladesh and reach Cachar via rail. The group communicated with a local tout in Cachar and with his help they were planning to cross the border August 12. But before they could execute the plan, the group of Rohingya were captured by the local public.

The group includes 2 women, two men and five children. The Rohingya group revealed that they reached Cachar in the early morning of August 12. Their handler asked them to hide in the nearby forest for the whole day. As per the instructions of the tout, the group hid in a forest in the Katogorah area for the whole day. In the evening the group took an autorickshaw to reach a spot. But before that they were spotted by the locals. It should be mentioned that the group could communicate well in Hindi as they lived many years in Hyderabad. Police arrested the group and investigation is on to get more details. The search for the tout is also on by the Cachar police.

On August 8, Sri Bhumi district police detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals including women and children while trying to enter Assam via international border. They were immediately pushed back by security forces. It has been seen that hundreds of intruders are attempting to cross to the Indian side in the recent months. But the vigil security forces were able to prevent those attempts. Still it is believed that numbers of intruders have successfully entered India creating a security threat for the nation.
