SDPI and Jamaat exploiting Christian protests to target BJP, says Kerala state vice president Shone George

Shone George cited the presence of fundamentalist outfits in demonstrations led by Church leaders in several locations, including Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Mananthavady, Angamaly, and Ernakulam

Kerala BJP State Vice President Adv. Shone George, on August 4, alleged that religious fundamentalist and terrorist organisations such as the SDPI, the political wing of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and Jamaat-e-Islami have infiltrated agitations organised by Christian churches.

Adv. George expressed serious concern in this regard while speaking to media persons. He stated that both believers and Church leadership must remain vigilant and exercise extra caution; otherwise, “it will be like assigning the protection of the lamb to the butcher.”

He cited the presence of fundamentalist outfits in demonstrations led by Church leaders in several locations, including Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Mananthavady, Angamaly, and Ernakulam.

In response to a question about evidence, Adv. George urged journalists to contact the State Police Intelligence or consult their own local sources.

The BJP leader stressed that society as a whole must stay alert. He pointed out that SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami organisations that have directly and indirectly unleashed attacks on Christianity around the world are now backing Church-led agitations. He questioned the genuineness of their intentions and warned that their infiltration, often without the knowledge of Church priests or leadership, posed a serious threat.

He remarked that those who once attacked the Pala Bishop, attempted to run over a priest in Poonjar with a vehicle, and protested against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 have suddenly changed their stance, now expressing unexpected sympathy towards Christians. He cautioned believers to see through this, describing it as a deceptive anti-BJP ploy.

Adv. Shone George further stated that the Church has never endorsed forced conversions. He recalled that the Second Vatican Council of 1964 had prohibited conversions by force. He added that the Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPM-led ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) had earlier aligned with Islamic fundamentalist groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in by-elections in Wayanad, Palakkad, Chelakkara, and Nilambur. He asserted that the people of Kerala are now aware of this.

He affirmed that the BJP has resolutely opposed such alliances and that the party presents a truly secular face, a fact which, he claimed, provokes fundamentalist forces. Hence, he alleged, they seek to infiltrate Church-led protests to hijack them and convert them into anti-BJP campaigns.

He concluded by saying that the BJP stands with “patriotic Muslims”, who, he claimed, are in the majority.

The BJP leader’s statement is both serious and alarming. It highlights how fundamentalists and terrorists attempt to spread their influence through various movements and agitations.
