In one of the biggest joint search operations launched by the Indian Army, J&K police and the CRPF in the Akhal forest range of South Kashmir, three more terrorists have been killed on day three of operations. Thereby, the total toll of terrorists in the ‘Operation Akhal’, that was started on August 1, has risen to six. The counter-terror exercise, ongoing in the Akhal forest range of Kulgam district in South Kashmir has witnessed intense firing between the security officials and terrorists throughout the night and the encounter broke out after the terrorists opened fire at the security personnel.
Officials asserted that the encountered terrorists belonged to The Resistance Front(TRF) terror outfit which is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT), who claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror incident on 22nd April. “High-tech surveillance system and paramilitary forces are involved in the operation and more than 15 corps Commander are closely monitoring the situation”, official sources said.
Indian Army’s Intense Operations to Buckle the Terrorists
‘Operation Akhal’ is the latest in the series of counter-terror operations undertaken by the Indian Army in cooperation with other security forces in Jammu & Kashmir. In late July, under ‘Operation Mahadev’, in the Dachigam forest range at the foot of Mahadev mountain peak, security officials killed three terrorists who were affiliated to LeT and were responsible for the Pahalgam terror incident.
On July 29th security officials neutralised two more terrorists under ‘Operation Shiv Shakti’, in the Poonch district of Kashmir and lately, under ‘Operation Akhal’, a remarkable number of terrorists belonging to the hardcore terror outfits of Pakistan have been neutralised.
Post Pahalgam terror incident and ‘Operation Sindoor’ Indian Army’s coordinated operations to trace and trap the terrorists have been going on relentlessly. The security forces are high on alert across the Line of Control(LOC) and in the hinterlands of Kashmir. Even drug smugglers and drug peddlers are under the scanner of security officials as such illegal rackets ultimately fund money for the terror conspiracies. The security officials are hence resolved to thwart all the illegal infiltration across the LOC and uproot the terror menace from the core.
