The Embassy of India in Dublin has issued a security advisory to Indian nationals in Ireland amid a disturbing rise in racially motivated attacks targeting members of the Indian community. The advisory follows a string of violent assaults, including the brutal stabbing of an Indian man in Tallaght, Dublin, on July 19, which has triggered widespread protests and raised alarm over the safety of immigrants in the country.
According to the embassy, there has been a noticeable increase in physical attacks on Indian citizens in recent weeks. In response, Indian nationals have been urged to avoid deserted areas, particularly at odd hours, and to exercise heightened caution. Emergency contact information was also shared to assist those in need, highlighting the seriousness of the threat.
The recent spike in attacks has particularly shaken the Indian diaspora after the horrific assault on a 40-year-old Indian national in Tallaght, who had arrived in Ireland only three weeks earlier to take up employment with Amazon. He was stabbed multiple times in the face, stripped, and left bleeding on the street for over an hour. The assault has since been classified as racially motivated by the Irish police, An Garda Siochana, and is under investigation as a potential hate crime.
Public anger spilt onto the streets as over 800 people, including members of the Indian, Bangladeshi, and Irish communities, marched in Dublin demanding justice. Protesters carried placards condemning racism and reaffirming their belonging to Irish society. The demonstrators walked from City Hall to the National Gallery, making a powerful statement against racial violence.

The July 19 incident was not isolated. Just days later, on July 28, another Indian-origin man, 32-year-old Santosh Yadav, was attacked by a group of six teenagers near his Dublin residence. He suffered a fractured cheekbone and multiple injuries. The attackers reportedly belonged to the same teenage gang responsible for the Tallaght stabbing, fuelling fears that Indians are being systematically targeted.
Witness accounts have painted a grim picture of escalating violence. Jennifer Murray, an Irish woman who assisted the 40-year-old victim, said the attack was not the first in the area. In a video posted online, she recounted that at least four other Indian men had been stabbed in the face by the same gang in the span of four days. The victim, she added, was severely traumatised and required a brain scan.
These incidents have exposed deep cracks in the Irish policing and public safety framework, especially concerning immigrant protection. Migrant advocacy organisations have criticised the limited capacity of Irish police to adequately respond to and record hate crimes. Teresa Buczkowska, head of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, warned that the Indian community appears to be a frequent target, although other migrant groups have also faced similar threats.

She noted that outdated mechanisms within An Garda Siochana are hindering effective hate crime response, particularly in public spaces like buses and trains. The lack of proper training and awareness among police officers has made it harder for victims to report such incidents and seek justice, thereby emboldening perpetrators.
Indians represent the largest non-EU immigrant community in Ireland and play an integral role in critical sectors such as healthcare and information technology. Despite their contributions, they are increasingly becoming targets of racist violence, with many fearing for their safety in the very country they have come to serve.
The embassy’s safety advisory underscores the gravity of the situation and the growing anxiety within the Indian community. As protests continue and public pressure mounts, the Irish government is under increasing scrutiny to act decisively against racially motivated violence and to ensure the safety and dignity of all its residents, regardless of origin.
