Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to hand over the MP Gaurav Gogoi Pakistan-link investigation National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Assam police Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the probe of MP Gaurav Gogoi and his British wife Elizabeth Colburn’s alleged link with a Pakistani NGO backed by its intelligence agency ISI. Congress MP Gogoi’s wife has worked for an NGO for several years which has clear links with persons very close to Pak army, ISI and government.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press meet held in Dispur on 1st August said that the state government will not extend the term of the SIT formed in February this year to probe the allegations against Gogoi. The SIT has to wrap its investigation by 10th September and will submit a report to him by 15 September. The report will be discussed in the Assam cabinet and the government is keen to handover the case to NIA for further investigation.
CM Sarma said, state police SIT has limited scope as it can’t access telephonic communication data, but agencies like NIA, CBI have the access upto 2010 and beyond. Ultimately the case is related to citizenship, link with the enemy country and so the matter is directly under the ministry of home affairs, so the centre has to take over the final investigation of the case, CM Sarma added.
He further said that with limited scope, Assam police SIT has done a commendable job. It should be mentioned that the SIT was formed in February this year after evidence surfaced of a link between a Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife Elizabeth Colburn. Ali Tauqeer is a close associate of the Pak intelligence agency ISI and the Pakistan government. He holds a very important position in Pak government and is very critical against India. Sheikh heads an NGO which works on climate and MP Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth worked for the NGO for several years based in New Delhi.
It was revealed in the SIT probe that Elizabeth received a salary from Pakistan for 3 years. The person in question Ali Tauqeer is often vocal against the Indian government and PM Narendra Modi in social media and it was seen he frequently promotes MP Gaurav Gogoi and his speeches inside Indian Parliament and other forums. SIT investigation also found that MP Gaurav Gogoi ensured that both of his children get British citizenship like his wife. He personally applied to cancel his children’s Indian citizenship to get a British passport. Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh visited India 18 times for unknown reasons and Elizabeth Colburn also visited Pakistan several times.
The SIT found that MP Gaurav Gogoi also visited Pakistan via the Attari border and stayed there for 15 days. He also visited Pak high commissioner office in New Delhi along with a number of students and attended seminars there. Recently home minister Amit Shah, during the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament, jibe at MP Gaurav Goigoi and said you visited Pakistan via Attari border only, so you can’t feel the pain of our soldiers serving in the border amid tough weather and terrain. CM Sarma said Gaurav can only deny it in front of journalists. When the home minister mentioned his Pak visit he couldn’t dare to deny it.
