In a major stride for Indian travellers, the Henley Passport Index 2025 has upgraded India’s passport ranking from 85th to 77th, reflecting a significant improvement in global mobility. Indian passport holders can now travel to 59 countries without the need to secure a visa in advance, an encouraging development for tourism, business and global outreach.
Of the 59 destinations, 30 offer visa-free access while 29 allow visas on arrival. This means more Indian citizens can explore the world with fewer bureaucratic hurdles and lower travel costs.
Popular travel hubs like Malaysia, Maldives, Thailand, and Mauritius are now open to Indian passport holders without the need for a visa, making vacation planning easier and more affordable. Similarly, countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Qatar offer visas upon arrival, further expanding India’s travel horizon.
Visa-free countries allow Indian citizens to enter solely with a valid passport. This eliminates the need for pre-application processes, interview appointments, and hefty visa fees. The only major expense for such travel is the flight ticket. Moreover, many of these destinations permit extended stays for several weeks, adding to their appeal for both tourism and work-leisure purposes.
Visa-on-arrival countries, on the other hand, provide entry visas after the traveller arrives at the destination. With a valid passport, return ticket, hotel reservation, and a filled-out application form, travellers can obtain entry permits directly at immigration counters. This system avoids the delays associated with embassy appointments and reduces last-minute travel barriers.
Bhutan, Iran, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, Philippines, British Virgin Islands, Cook Islands, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Haiti, Kiribati, Macau, Madagascar, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Niue, Rwanda, Senegal, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Vanuatu, Angola, and Barbados are the visa-free destinations for Indian passport holders.
The countries offering visa-on-arrival access include, Indonesia, Jordan, Maldives, Bolivia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde Islands, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Laos, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Mozambique, Namibia, Palau Islands, Qatar, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Saint Lucia, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, and Tuvalu.
