Since the Islamist-backed regime change in Bangladesh in mid-2024, misleadingly branded by Western media as a “student uprising”, “colour revolution”, or “popular movement”, the nation has plunged into an abyss of religious intolerance and state-sponsored persecution. The so-called “revolution” was, in fact, a meticulously orchestrated jihadist coup, tacitly endorsed by segments of the US Deep State, including operatives tied to George Soros, and reportedly facilitated by powerful figures such as Bill and Hillary Clinton. Its real target was the secular and democratic fabric of Bangladesh – a legacy now left in ruins and instal an anti-Hindu regime led by Muhammad Yunus.
Double Standards of Human Rights Organisations
Among the gravest casualties of this Islamist resurgence are the country’s Hindu population and other vulnerable religious and ethnic minorities. Over the past ten months, the Hindu community of Bangladesh has suffered unprecedented waves of violence and repression. Hindu mandirs have been repeatedly desecrated and demolished. Hundreds of Hindu homes have been burned or bulldozed. Devout Hindu priests, such as Chinmoy Krishna Das and others, have been falsely accused and imprisoned. Hindu women and girls are increasingly targeted with impunity – subjected to harassment, assault, and rape – while a complicit state apparatus either looks away or facilitates cover-ups.
Despite this ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, the international community – particularly Western governments, global human rights organisations, and major media outlets – remain eerily silent. Organisations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, which claim to champion the rights of the oppressed, have failed miserably in speaking up for persecuted Hindus in Bangladesh. Their selective advocacy has betrayed the very principles of universal human rights and exposed a disturbing double standard.
Rising Brutality Against Innocent Hindus
The recent horrific case from Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village under Muradnagar upazilla in Comilla district epitomises the gruesome reality for Hindus in today’s Bangladesh. On the night of June 26, a Hindu woman and mother of two was brutally assaulted, stripped, and raped by a gang of local Muslim men led by an individual named Fajor Ali. Not only did the perpetrators commit this heinous crime with a sense of impunity, but they also filmed the act and circulated it on social media, confident that the state would shield them.
Following the assault, instead of rallying behind the victim, pro-regime social media activists and Islamist-leaning newspapers launched a vicious campaign to malign her character. Their aim was clear: to justify the inexcusable and to protect the perpetrators. Some even went as far as accusing “Hindutva forces” and so-called “anti-Yunus elements” of orchestrating the incident to damage the regime’s image – an appalling inversion of truth and morality.
This propaganda-driven narrative underscores how emboldened Islamist elements have become in Bangladesh. They are not just committing crimes against minorities – they are doing so openly, publicly, and without fear of consequence. Their arrogance stems from a justified belief that the judicial and political systems, now largely controlled by Islamist sympathisers, will not hold them accountable.
Endless Torture by Fanatic Regime
In response to the viral video of the rape, the Bangladesh High Court did take some limited action. On June 29, the bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the video footage from social media platforms. The court also instructed authorities to ensure the safety and medical care of the rape survivor and requested a progress report to be submitted on July 14.
Police later arrested the primary accused, Fajor Ali, along with four accomplices – Sumon, Ramjan Ali, Mohammed Arif, and Mohammed Anik. However, instead of being placed in police custody for questioning, the main accused was taken to a hospital, raising serious concerns about the sincerity of the investigation. Meanwhile, local political leaders affiliated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been accused of intimidating the victim’s family into withdrawing the case. Shockingly, threats of eviction have been made, further traumatising a family already shattered by unimaginable violence.
What is happening in Bangladesh today is not isolated or accidental. It is part of a wider, systematic campaign to marginalise, dehumanise, and ultimately erase the Hindu population. The events unfolding are eerily reminiscent of early warning signs of ethnic cleansing – yet the world’s conscience remains asleep.
Where is the Outrage?
The silence of the global community is deafening. Western governments that often champion human rights elsewhere are notably quiet. The United Nations, which is quick to issue statements on crises in other regions, has not made a single strong statement on the targeted persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The selective blindness of international rights watchdogs has emboldened the perpetrators.
