Patna: Police on July 3 apprehended a leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) from Nalanda over allegedly making inflammatory and objectionable statement in a Facebook live video.

The arrested individual Shamim Akhtar is said to be the district head of the AIMIM. Akhtar was picked up from Khasganj colony under the jurisdiction of Sohasrai police station. He was booked on charges of making objectional statement in the said live video and later sent in to judicial custody. Akhtar was also named in other cases reportedly.

According to details, the police had received information about a live video on social media. Upon investigating, the police found the said video to be harmful for social harmony. The police swung into action thereafter, and arrested Shamim Akhtar. The accused was later produced before the Sub-Divisional Officer and was subsequently sent to judicial custody.

Notably, the police and the administration is keeping a strict watch on social media platforms ahead of Muharram. Police on Friday also issued guidelines, appealing everyone to avoid posting, forwarding misleading posts on social media.
