Bijapur: A civilian was brutally hacked to death while another villager sustained serious injuries in back to back Maoist related incidents in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

The first incident unfolded in Naxal-affected Usur block of Bijapur where cadres of the unlawful outfit CPI (Maoist) barged into Perampalli village and abducted a civilian on late July 1 evening. The extremists later hacked him to death with sharp weapons.

The cold-blooded murder of the villager has sent shockwaves into the locality, leaving the resident terrified and panicked. It is being speculated that the Maoists have executed the villager on suspicion of him being an informer.

The incident marks yet another display of raw terror being unleashed against the unarmed civilian by the outlawed group, exposing the chilling reality of violence-ridden regions. The police have initiated an enquiry into the incident and the matter is being investigated.

Notably in a similar incident reported a fortnight ago, a group of Maoists led by local commander Vella had also executed three innocent civilians including a student in Peddakorma village of Bijapur.

It was then reported that two of the killed civilians were relatives of surrendered Maoist Dinesh Modiyam.

The incident unfolded on June 17 evening when a group of Maoists barged into the Peddakorma village and executed three civilians Anil Madavi, Jhingu Modiyam and Soma Modiyam on alleged charges of espionage. The extremists also assaulted over half-a dozen villagers and abducted a dozen more before fleeing the scene.

Significantly, over 60 incidents of civilian killing were reported from Maoist-hit regions of the state in 2024 alone.

Civilian injured in IED blast in Maded

In another related development, a civilian was badly wounded after he accidently came in contact with an Improvised Explosive Device planted by Maoists in Bijapur.

The blast took place near Pagadapilli village under the jurisdiction of Maded police station limits, leaving the said individual gravely injured.

According to the details, the villager Vishal Gote had gone to nearby forest area to collect forest-produce when he accidently stepped upon one of the IEDs planted by the Maoists, triggering an explosion. Gote was later rushed to the nearby medical facilities and referred to Jagdalpur for better treatment subsequently.

It is worth mentioning here, that the IEDs planted by Maoists on forest trails often led to causalities or grave injuries to local civilians who depends heavily upon forest produce for their livelihood.
