Punjab police arrested two individuals, an Army soldier and his civilian associate, in J&K for their alleged ties to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The soldier, Gurpreet Singh from Dhariwal, Amritsar, is currently serving in the Indian Army stationed in Jammu. His associate, Sahil Masih, also from Dhariwal, was detained alongside him during an intelligence-led operation when they were allegedly trying to transfer sensitive information to Pakistan.

Army Jawan Linked to ISI: Police Statement

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations show Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with ISI operatives and is suspected of sharing sensitive military information through pen drives and discs. Authorities have seized two mobile phones with virtual numbers used for communication with ISI handlers, according to media reports.

Maninder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), stated that Gurpreet Singh, who joined the Army in 2016, allegedly abused his official position to collect and transmit classified military secrets. The operation is believed to have been facilitated by a Dubai-based drug trafficker named Arjan, a Dhariwal native, who reportedly introduced Gurpreet to ISI operatives about five months ago.

Money Transferred Through Complex Network

Gurpreet Singh is reported to have conducted systematic surveillance, stolen data, and made physical data drops at designated locations. He allegedly received payments through a complicated network of financial transactions involving friends, relatives, and foreign associates to evade detection.

Police have identified the key Pakistani handler as Rana Javed. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider espionage-terror network and identify additional collaborators.

A case has been registered at Lopoke Police Station in Amritsar under the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
