A man Verma, a 24-year-old student, is currently overjoyed. After completing his B. Tech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Aman has received multiple job offers from AI-based tech companies. Among all the exciting opportunities, Aman has chosen to work with a robotics startup based in Bengaluru. Aman still fondly remembers the day he decided to enroll in this specialised course, with the hope of building a future in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Today, that decision has paved the way for a successful and promising career. His journey reflects the real essence of India’s emerging AI mission, where youth are not only embracing technology but also becoming its torchbearers.

PM Modi Articulates AI’s Role

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while co-chairing the AI Action Summit held in Paris on February 11, 2025, emphasised the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in the years to come. He stated, “AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, agriculture and so much more. It can help create a world in which the journey to Sustainable Development Goals becomes easier and faster.”

The PM also stressed the growing importance and necessity of AI across all sectors.

Pointing out that one of the major global concerns surrounding AI is about the fear of job loss, Prime Minister Modi reassured that history shows us a different reality. “Loss of jobs is AI’s most feared disruption. But, history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology. Its nature changes and new types of jobs are created. We need to invest in skilling and reskilling our people for an AI-driven future.” This perspective underscores the urgent need for skill development and reskilling to prepare the workforce for future demands. Experts in the AI domain agree that almost every emerging technology will, in some form, be powered by AI, whether it is urban traffic management, the pursuit of green energy, the control systems for high-speed trains, or emergency healthcare services in hospitals. The relevance and necessity of Artificial Intelligence are growing rapidly across all sectors. It is no longer a luxury but a critical demand of the time emerging as one of the most powerful tools to enhance the efficiency and intelligence of systems and services.

Rising Demand for AI Professionals

While co-chairing the Paris Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, our Prime Minister emphasised the need for inclusive AI integration and its connection to future employment. Supporting this vision, the PwC report also confirms that AI is not eliminating jobs but transforming their nature. Rather than replacing human workers, AI is being used to enhance employees efficiency and assign them to higher-level tasks. The demand for AI-skilled professionals is rising sharply, and increasingly, practical skills are being valued more than formal degrees. One key insight from the report is that women are more represented in AI-affected job sectors, which may make the transition more challenging for them. Therefore, it is essential for companies to focus on training, reskilling and promoting AI literacy, especially among underrepresented groups. Recognising these shifts, nearly every Indian University today is making multi-dimensional preparations to address the evolving employment landscape and skill demands created by the rise of Artificial Intelligence.
