On June 23, Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police arrested a woman from Chennai for allegedly sending fake bomb threat emails to multiple public locations, including the Narendra Modi Stadium, across 12 states. Police revealed that her motive was revenge after the man she loved married someone else.

The accused, Reni Joshilda, is a senior consultant at Deloitte with a background in robotics. Police said she was involved in a one-sided relationship with a man named Divij Prabhakar, whom she wished to marry. However, he did not reciprocate her feelings and married another woman in February 2025.

The rejection reportedly left Joshilda emotionally distressed, leading her to take actions aimed at framing Prabhakar. “The primary accused in the case is Reni Joshilda from Chennai. She is qualified in robotics and currently works as a senior consultant at Deloitte. She was involved in a one-sided relationship with Divij Prabhakar, whom she wished to marry,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal told Business Standard.

Singhal revealed that Joshilda, seeking revenge, created multiple fake email IDs—some even using Prabhakar’s name—and sent bomb threat emails. These hoaxes claimed explosives were planted at Narendra Modi Stadium, a medical college, and several schools, often timed with religious events or VIP visits. In total, at least 13 such threats were reported, triggering widespread panic and major security operations across 12 states.

One of the emails referenced the 2023 Air India crash, while another warned, “Bomb successfully planted in Narendra Modi Stadium. Save the stadium if you can.”

Police said the accused used the dark web to send these threats, attempting to conceal her digital identity and frame Prabhakar. However, a small digital mistake allowed the crime branch to trace the messages back to her in Chennai.

“A tiny slip exposed her digital footprint. With help from our technical team, we tracked her location to Chennai and recovered vital digital and physical evidence,” said Singhal.

Joshilda was arrested at her Chennai home, and her electronic devices were seized. Authorities are investigating whether she acted alone or had accomplices. Cyber police across the affected states are collaborating to determine if she was involved in other similar threats.
