A case has been filed against YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after a party supporter, Cheeli Singaiah, was fatally run over by a vehicle from his convoy in Guntur district.

According to Guntur SP Satish Kumar, the incident occurred on June 18 during Reddy’s visit to Rentapalla, where he was meeting the family of a deceased YSRCP leader.

The visit took a tragic turn when Singaiah, standing with other YSRCP supporters along the roadside, was struck by a convoy vehicle and suffered severe bleeding injuries. As the incident unfolded, eyewitnesses rushed to help and alerted the police. Singaiah was quickly taken to Guntur Government Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The tragedy has raised serious concerns about crowd control and triggered criticism over lapses in security management.
Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar, in a press conference on June 22, confirmed that after reviewing evidence, it was found the deceased was run over by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s vehicle.
Initially, a case was filed under Section 106(1) of the BNS (causing death by negligence) following a complaint by the victim’s wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary. However, after examining CCTV footage, drone visuals, eyewitness accounts, and other technical evidence, the case was upgraded to include Sections 105 and 49 of the BNS. The SP stated that legal action would be taken against all occupants of the vehicle, including Jagan Mohan Reddy.
SP Satish Kumar informed reporters that the other accused in the case include Jagan Mohan Reddy’s driver Ramana Reddy, his Personal Assistant K. Nageshwar Reddy, senior YSRCP leader Y.V. Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former Minister Vidadala Rajini.
