In an official statement, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) labelled the viral posts as false, stating, “Several social media accounts have claimed that Indian airspace was used by the United States to launch aircraft against Iran during Operation Midnight Hammer. This claim is FAKE.”
The government’s fact-checking agency further noted that during a press briefing, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine clarified the actual route taken by the US aircraft involved in the operation, confirming that Indian airspace was not used at any point during the mission.
The clarification follows what US officials have called one of the most extensive and complex aerial operations in decades.
Operation Midnight Hammer, conducted late June 21 night, struck critical Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The assault involved 75 precision-guided munitions, including 14 GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs, launched from stealth bombers and submarines.
Following the operation, numerous posts emerged on social media platform X, alleging that US bombers entered Iranian airspace via India. These claims sparked a flurry of speculation, suggesting that India had permitted its airspace to be used for the strike.
However, the Modi-led union government has firmly denied the reports, reaffirming its neutral stance and urging for de-escalation amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
