After a remarkable performance in national-level competitive exams, the Uttar Pradesh government is now planning to take its flagship Abhyudaya Coaching Scheme to the block level to reach more students from remote and underprivileged backgrounds.
The initiative comes on the heels of this year’s notable success, 81 students from the scheme cleared NEET, the prestigious medical entrance test, and 13 aspirants qualified for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Encouraged by these achievements, the state government is working on a proposal to ensure that the benefits of the free coaching scheme reach deeper into rural Uttar Pradesh.
Many students from poor and marginalised communities, especially girls from remote villages, are unable to attend coaching classes at district headquarters due to distance, financial constraints, and family concerns. A senior government official highlighted that parents are often hesitant to send their daughters far from home, making it necessary to bring the classrooms closer.
“We’ve instructed local authorities to identify available spaces in blocks where physical classes can be conducted,” the official confirmed.
The upcoming block-level centres will adopt a hybrid model, offline classes will be conducted by retired teachers and local administrative officials, while online sessions will be delivered by senior educators and civil servants. Teaching will follow a structured curriculum and materials prepared by the core Abhyudaya centres at district headquarters to ensure consistency in quality and learning outcomes.
The Growing Impact of Abhyudaya
Launched in 2021, the Abhyudaya Coaching Scheme has emerged as a crucial initiative in Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to make competitive exam preparation accessible to all, especially students from underprivileged backgrounds. The scheme currently operates 166 coaching centres across all 75 districts of the state, offering free, quality guidance. A total of 1,783 teachers have been empanelled to provide instruction, and 23,017 students have already registered for the 2024-25 academic session.
For the current year, the government sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the scheme, out of which Rs 24.64 crore has been utilized so far. Since its launch, over 82,000 students have benefited from this program. The entire network of coaching centres is supervised by a dedicated secretariat based in Lucknow, under the leadership of Social Welfare Director Kumar Prashant, ensuring transparency, quality, and effective implementation.
The Abhyudaya scheme has proven to be a highly successful initiative, consistently delivering impressive results across a variety of competitive examinations. Since its inception, the scheme has supported 59 aspirants in clearing the prestigious UPSC exam and 121 candidates in qualifying for the UPPCS. It has also helped 167 students crack the NEET exam and 35 secure success in the JEE.
Additionally, nearly 455 candidates have qualified in other major exams such as SSC, BPSC, Police recruitment, and similar competitive tests. In the ongoing academic year alone, more than 300 candidates who cleared the UPPCS Prelims are currently receiving specialized coaching for the Mains, while over 50 students have cleared the BPSC Prelims with the support of Abhyudaya classes. These numbers reflect the scheme’s consistent impact and growing contribution to the academic and professional success of students across Uttar Pradesh.
