PPFA slams CNN News18 for linking Kamakhya Mandir to human sacrifice in Meghalaya murder case

The PPFA has condemned CNN News18 for airing a defamatory and culturally insensitive claim linking Kamakhya Mandir to human sacrifice. The group urged the Centre and broadcasting authorities to take legal action against the channel for spreading misinformation during coverage of a Meghalaya murder case

Guwahati: Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA), a form of nationalist citizens in far eastern Bharat, expressed utter dismay that a so-called national news channel has aired irresponsible and highly objectionable views that ‘human sacrifice takes place in Kamakhya Mandir regularly’ while highlighting the murder of an Indore-based individual (suspected orchastered by his newly married wife) in Meghalaya. Before reaching Sohra (Cherrapunjee), the couple reportedly visited the sacred Shakti Peeth atop Nilachal hills in the city.

“Giving space to the victim’s family (hailing from Madhya Pradesh), CNN News18 flawlessly allowed it to make a statement that Raja Raghuvanshi was probably ‘sacrificed’ by Sonam Raghuvanshi following black magic rituals. Showing utter stupidity the news anchor supplemented that ‘Narabali (human sacrifice) usually happens in Kamakhya’. These types of media persons urgently need an orientation about the country and its cultural heritage,” said the PPFA.

The accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with four others, had already been arrested and were in the custody of the Meghalaya police until 19 June, as ordered by a Shillong court. The PPFA, while urging the media outlets to follow the established guidelines while reporting a personal tragedy, demanded the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (GoI) as well as the News Broadcasters & Digital Association to take serious note of the carelessness and irresponsibility shown by the particular news channel and proceed with necessary legal actions.
