In a dramatic escalation, President Donald Trump has signalled the possible deployment of active-duty Marines to Los Angeles as violent immigration protests spiral out of control. US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth announced on June 8 that Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton are on “high alert” and will be mobilised if violence continues. “The Department of Defence is mobilising the National Guard immediately to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles. And, if violence continues, active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilised, they are on high alert,” Hegseth tweeted.

The move comes amid an intensifying clash between the Democrat-ruled state of California and the Republican-led Trump administration. The standoff reflects a deepening confrontation over immigration policy and federal authority, with Los Angeles, home to a large immigrant and Hispanic population, at its epicentre.

Protests erupted in LA following a wave of immigration raids by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that began on Friday, resulting in dozens of arrests. What started as a demonstration near Paramount on Saturday quickly descended into violence. Protesters demanded the release of detainees, and the situation escalated as vehicles were torched and nearly a thousand people surrounded federal officers, according to ICE. Tear gas and flash bangs were reportedly used as the protest turned into a full-blown clash. There are also allegations that the Los Angeles Police Department delayed intervention, worsening the unrest.

Facing mounting chaos, Trump responded with force, deploying the National Guard to LA despite opposition from California Governor Gavin Newsom and local leaders. Doubling down on his stance, Trump declared on Truth Social that if Governor Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass “can’t do their jobs,” the federal government would “solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!” He denounced the demonstrators as “Radical Left” agitators and “paid troublemakers,” also announcing a protest mask ban with the question: “What do these people have to hide, and why???”

The violent mob assaults on ICE and Federal Law Enforcement are designed to prevent the removal of Criminal Illegal Aliens from our soil; a dangerous invasion facilitated by criminal cartels (aka Foreign Terrorist Organizations) and a huge NATIONAL SECURITY RISK.

Under President…

Governor Newsom condemned Hegseth’s threat to deploy Marines as “deranged behaviour” and accused the Trump administration of deliberately inciting unrest. “The Secretary of Defence is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens,” Newsom said, urging protestors to “never use violence” and “speak out peacefully.”

Meanwhile, White House aide Stephen Miller described the protests as a “violent insurrection,” a narrative amplified by Vice President JD Vance, who said, “Insurrectionists carrying foreign flags are attacking immigration enforcement officers.”

With federal forces already on the ground and Marines on standby, the battle over immigration enforcement in Los Angeles has become a flashpoint in the broader ideological war between Trump’s nationalist federal policy and California’s Democratic liberal politics.
