With the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) approaching on June 21, 2025, the youth-focused initiative “Yoga Unplugged” is emerging as a cornerstone of this year’s global celebrations. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Ayush, the program has gained significant traction with the participation of prominent yoga institutions, including the renowned Kaivalyadhama, signalling a transformative movement to engage the next generation in the practice of yoga. This initiative, designed to resonate with young audiences through innovative and accessible formats, is set to redefine how yoga is perceived and practised by youth worldwide.

Youth-Centric Approach to Yoga

“Yoga Unplugged” is a flagship program under IDY 2025, crafted to inspire students, young professionals, and change makers to integrate yoga into their daily lives. By leveraging modern platforms, creative campaigns, and interactive events, the initiative seeks to make yoga relatable and appealing to younger demographics. The Ministry of Ayush, in its press release on May 17, 2025, highlighted the program’s goal of fostering a lifelong connection between youth and yoga, emphasising its benefits for mental health, physical well-being, and personal growth.

The initiative’s momentum received a significant boost with the endorsement of Kaivalyadhama, one of the world’s oldest and most respected yoga institutes. Founded in 1924 by Swami Kuvalayananda, Kaivalyadhama is celebrated for its commitment to blending traditional yoga principles, as outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Maharishi Patanjali, with scientific research. The institute’s participation in “Yoga Unplugged” underscores its dedication to making yoga accessible and relevant to contemporary audiences, particularly the youth.

Kaivalyadhama’s Contributions to Yoga Unplugged

Kaivalyadhama has rolled out a series of youth-focused initiatives as part of “Yoga Unplugged,” with its “Yoga for Young Minds” campaign taking centre stage. This program offers free access to the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) training through the institute’s online platform, enabling students and young individuals across India to learn standardised yoga practices at no cost. The CYP, developed by the Ministry of Ayush, is a globally recognised framework designed to promote uniformity in yoga practices during IDY celebrations.

In addition to the “Yoga for Young Minds” campaign, Kaivalyadhama will participate in “Yoga Connect,” a virtual global summit featuring leading yoga experts and healthcare professionals. The institute’s contribution to this summit, branded as “Yoginar,” will include online sessions that explore the intersection of yoga, science, and youth wellness. These sessions aim to engage young audiences by presenting yoga as a dynamic tool for stress management, focus, and holistic health.

Kaivalyadhama’s involvement is particularly significant given its legacy of merging yoga tradition with scientific inquiry. Since its inception, the institute has conducted pioneering research on yoga’s physiological and psychological benefits, making it a trusted authority in the field. Its alignment with “Yoga Unplugged” is expected to inspire other institutions to join the movement, further amplifying the initiative’s reach and impact.

A Broader Movement

The Ministry of Ayush anticipates that more yoga institutions will join “Yoga Unplugged” in the coming weeks, creating a nationwide network of organisations committed to engaging youth in yoga. This collaborative effort is seen as a critical step in motivating young people to embrace yoga as a lifestyle choice, fostering resilience, mindfulness, and community connection. The initiative’s innovative approach, which includes social media campaigns, virtual workshops, and youth-led events, is designed to resonate with the digital-native generation.

“Yoga Unplugged is not just about practising yoga; it’s about creating a movement that empowers young people to take charge of their well-being,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Ayush. “By partnering with institutions like Kaivalyadhama, we are ensuring that yoga is presented in a way that speaks to the aspirations and challenges of today’s youth.”

IDY 2025: A Global Celebration of Wellness

“Yoga Unplugged” is one of 10 signature events announced by the Ministry of Ayush to mark the 11th edition of IDY. These events, designed to promote yoga’s transformative power on a global scale, reflect the ministry’s vision of integrating yoga into diverse aspects of life, from public health to environmental sustainability. The signature events are:

•  Yoga Sangam: A synchronised yoga demonstration at 100,000 locations worldwide, showcasing the unity and universality of yoga.

•  Yoga Bandhan: International exchange programs fostering partnerships between India and other countries to promote yoga globally.

•  Yoga Parks: The development of dedicated yoga parks to encourage long-term community engagement with yoga.

•  Yoga Samavesh: Inclusive yoga programs tailored for children, seniors, persons with disabilities, and marginalised communities.

•  Yoga Prabhav: A decadal study evaluating yoga’s impact on public health, with findings to be presented during IDY 2025.

•  Yoga Connect: A virtual global summit bringing together yoga experts, healthcare professionals, and enthusiasts.

•  Harit Yoga: A sustainability initiative combining yoga sessions with tree planting and environmental clean-up drives.

•  Yoga Unplugged: Youth-focused events to inspire the next generation to embrace yoga.

•  Yoga MahaKumbh: A week-long yoga festival across 10 Indian cities, culminating in a grand celebration on June 21, 2025.

•  Samyoga: A 100-day campaign integrating yoga with modern healthcare systems to promote holistic wellness.

Each of these events is designed to highlight a unique facet of yoga, from its role in fostering global unity to its potential as a tool for environmental and social change. Together, they aim to create a mass movement of wellness that transcends borders, cultures, and generations.

A Call to Action

The Ministry of Ayush has extended an open invitation to individuals, institutions, and communities worldwide to participate in IDY 2025. Those interested in organising a Yoga Sangam event in their locality can register on the official IDY portal, ensuring that the synchronised yoga demonstrations reach every corner of the globe. The ministry also encourages participation in other signature events, particularly “Yoga Unplugged,” which offers a unique opportunity to engage young people in meaningful ways.

As the countdown to June 21, 2025, begins, the excitement surrounding “Yoga Unplugged” continues to build. With leading institutions like Kaivalyadhama at the forefront, the initiative is well-positioned to inspire a new generation of yoga practitioners. By combining tradition with innovation, “Yoga Unplugged” is not only redefining how yoga is practiced but also reinforcing its relevance in addressing the challenges of modern life.

Looking Ahead

The Ministry of Ayush plans to support ongoing youth engagement through partnerships with educational institutions, community organisations, and digital platforms. By creating a lasting ecosystem for youth-focused yoga programs, the ministry aims to ensure that the benefits of yoga—mental clarity, physical vitality, and emotional balance—become accessible to all.

As Kaivalyadhama and other institutions lead the charge, “Yoga Unplugged” is set to become a defining feature of IDY 2025, sparking a global youth movement rooted in wellness and mindfulness. On June 21, 2025, the world will come together to celebrate the transformative power of yoga, with young people at the heart of this historic moment.
